UFC 301 had 13 fights in total on the card and it was quite the ride! While the night had some wild moments, the preliminary main event between Jack Shore and Joanderson Brito (17-3-1) had one of the gnarliest endings in recent memory. Ahead of the main card, Shore and Brito fought each other in a featherweight bout that lasted till the second round before the ref had to put an end to the contest.

In round 2, Brito landed a vicious leg kick that Shore checked. However, it busted Shore’s left leg open and created a massive cut on his shin. Joanderson followed a very specific fight plan throughout the bout where he targeted Jack’s leg. As per UFC stats, he landed 22 out of the 23 leg kicks that he attempted. All the kicks had a nasty impact on Shore’s leg and in the second round of the fight, one such kick created one of the worst cuts in UFC history.

Joanderson Brito gets the Dr. Stoppage after this cut of Jack Shore’s leg🤢‼️
WHY WAS THE DOCTOR FINGERING IT⁉️#UFC #UFC301 #MMA pic.twitter.com/qOvViONgTx
It nearly looked like a bullet hole where the cage-side physician even stuck his finger inside. Referee Joao Claudio Soares also earned a lot of plaudits from fans for stopping the bout before Jack Shore potentially broke his shin bone. Shore’s career record currently stands at 17-2 and it will be interesting to see how soon he recovers from such a nasty injury.
UFC community reacts to the nasty injury to Jack Shore at UFC 301
While fans seemed to agree unanimously that the stoppage was a good one, the UFC fighters seemed to have a split opinion. Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson opined that Jack Shore’s shin could not have withheld a lot of those kicks from Joanderson Brito.
However, former UFC welterweight title contender Dan Hardy had a completely different take on the matter. Hardy slammed the doctor for sticking his finger inside the wound and added that the bout should not have been stopped.

That shouldn’t have been stopped, and that doctor didn’t need to be digging his damn fingers in the cut to make it worse.

It’s a cut. The bone wasn’t broken.
