Are the Dallas Mavericks still up for yet another trade involving Clint Capela? Let’s have a closer look at their current situation and find out more.
After doing poorly in all areas last season, the Dallas Mavericks decided to improve their defense and rebounding this summer. The team’s defensive rating was 25, and their overall rebounding was 30, which made it more urgent to advance in both areas.
The Dallas Mavericks front office has made the most of this offseason through the draft, trades, and free agency. They want to hopefully prevent it from ever happening again after Luka Doncic had his most miserable NBA season in five years. This offseason, the Mavs have been linked to trade interest in a number of seasoned centers. The loudest names were Clint Capela and Deandre Ayton.

Marc Stein recently took to Twitter and hinted that the Mavericks are interested in acquiring Clint Capela. “The Mavericks don’t want to be done. Maybe they are done with this roster because further moves are not available to them. They would love if the chance to make another trade run at Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks materializes to this point”, wrote Stein.
Dereck Lively II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, two promising defensive talents, were selected by the Mavs in the 2023 Draft. Both players are still developing their offensive strategies. Lively, who is only 19 years old, will probably need some time to live up to the Tyson Chandler comparisons he frequently gets.
How will Clint Capela fit in with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving?
The Mavericks must part ways with a package that includes Josh Green, a promising connecting wing who can cut and pass on the fly. He can also defend and hit open threes, which gives him value in order to acquire their desired shot-blocking, board-hoarding center. Green, who is still only 22 years old, could be a major acquisition for the Hawks. Josh has to repeat the 40.2 percent he shot from beyond the arc last season to prove the deal fruitful.
In 65 games last season, Capela averaged 12.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks. Along with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, he would provide the Mavs’ team with the crucial lift as a rim roller and protector. The cost, however, should be taken into account.
A realistic deal for the Mavericks to acquire Capela would almost certainly demand the involvement of a third team. The key aim for Atlanta this summer has been Pascal Siakam. They could profit from having the Mavericks on their side in such a transaction.
