Since Bray Wyatt passed away last month, the entire industry has been wondering how he still had a lot to achieve in his WWE career. Despite being a highly accomplished name in the pro wrestling world, there were a lot of opportunities left for him to discover, which also included a number of iconic rivalries and matches.
The Eater of Worlds had historic feuds with legendary performers such as John Cena and The Undertaker, but there was a matchup that never became a reality. It’s none other than a match between Bray’s “The Fiend” character and Finn Balor’s “Demon” persona.
This is a feud the WWE universe regrets not being able to witness, but not just fans; Balor also shared his disappointment at not getting the chance to fight the late pro wrestler in a Fiend vs. Demon match. The inaugural Universal Champion talked about this lost chance on a recent episode of Peter Rosenberg’s “Cheap Heat” podcast.
Finn Bálor says a Demon Bálor vs Fiend match was talked about at length. And is sad we didn’t get it.

Expressing his views about this match, The Judgment Day member said, “The one thing I’m sad that we didn’t ever get to get to was the Fiend vs. Demon match. That was something that we talked about at length and we were kind of hoping that was going to happen eventually, but it’s not to be.” (Via: Wrestling Inc)
Looking at how Finn shared his sadness about not being able to perform this iconic match with Windham, it’s obvious that he also wanted it to happen badly. However, as the encounter never came into place despite the two stars being involved in a rivalry against each other, it seems like, it’s something WWE never opted to go for.
Bray Wyatt faced Finn Balor’s Demon persona at SummerSlam 2017
It’s obviously disappointing that this match never took place, but both Bray and Finn have faced each other in some high-profile encounters throughout the years. Their rivalry started back in July 2017, when Wyatt attacked Balor, and this eventually led to a match at that year’s SummerSlam.
At SummerSlam 2017, Bray Wyatt faced Finn Balor’s Demon persona, and both stars gave it all inside the ring. The match was one of the best on that show, and the Irish WWE star was able to get victorious. This loss took a massive toll on Wyatt’s momentum, and is considered among those matches he should’ve won.

The stars again crossed paths in the summer of 2019, as they fought in a singles match at SummerSlam 2019. But this time their characters were absolutely opposite, as Bray competed in The Fiend’s persona and Balor didn’t appear in the “Demon King” character. In this match, Windham took revenge for his 2017 loss as he defeated Finn Balor.
Despite performing their special personas against each other, the two never got to use them in the same match, and that’s why The Fiend vs Demon King encounter never came to reality. It’s sad that we’ve been barren from such an iconic WWE moment, but that’s probably what was written in the destiny.
