Dominik Mysterio is emerging to be one of the greatest heels in the history of WWE. His turn against his father has been gaining all the fan following. This has not only left space for future storylines but has also shaken the roots of the 2005 storyline that took place between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.

Dominik’s custody was brought out before the public after Eddie made claims that Dominik was his blood. However, it was Rey Mysterio who was eventually declared to be Dominik’s real father. In the middle of all this, fans are confused and wonder if Dominik really is Rey Mysterio’s son. The answer to this is most definitely yes.
Talking about Eddie Guerrero on the ‘Out Of Character‘ podcast, Dominik Mysterio once said, “I mean, WWE storyline, he is my dad. So, I would’ve loved to have gone home with Uncle Eddie at this point, right? I feel like we would’ve had a really good dynamic at home… I always tell people, I feel like Eddie.” His statements have heightened the differences fueling the rivalry with his father.
How did the storyline of Rey Mysterio’s real father get into WWE?
The story of Dominik Mysterio’s real father has been going on in the WWE Universe since 2005 when Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio were quite good friends. However, the bond was soon broken with the public allegations that Eddie made about Rey’s 8-year-old son Dominik. Eddie claimed that Dominik was born out of his wedlock and was his biological son.
Eddie went ahead to make bold claims about the relationship shared between Rey and his wife Angie. He openly declared that the couple had trouble conceiving and thus left Dominik for the Mysterios to adopt and raise. The statement couldn’t be taken calmly by the Mysterios and a great rivalry took place between the two friends.
In order to decide the fate of Dominik’s father, WWE devised a plan and set up a ladder match between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. The person to win the match would be handed Dominik’s custody. It was Rey who emerged victorious in the same, making him Dominik’s rightful father.
In 2005, Rey Mysterio beat Eddie Guerrero in a match for custody of son Dominik, who then watched his father win the World Heavyweight title at Wrestlemania the next year.

The storyline involving Dominik’s custody was purely a kayfabe. Looking at it from another perspective, it is highly impractical to decide the custody of an 8-year-old via the result of a WWE ladder match. The storyline, however, proved to be a golden bird for the WWE and is getting massive popularity in the current storylines as well.
