Tony Khan recently announced that AEW has terminated veteran professional wrestler CM Punk, and it has created a wave of uncertainty about his future. As disclosed by the Jacksonville-based promotion’s CEO, this decision has been taken after the issues surrounding Punk.
As the former AEW star was involved in a altercation with fellow performer Jack Perry during the historic All In London event, it created a lot of chaos. It was previously reported that the roster is unhappy with Tony for favoring CM despite his actions, but the news of his termination has ended this argument.

After it was announced that the former AEW Champion had been fired, fans expressed their disappointment at the decision, as Khan faced a lot of backlash. Now that Punk has left the promotion, different speculations have been circulating about his career. But the biggest question is whether he’ll return to the WWE. So, let’s check out three possibilities for which he could be going back to Triple H’s company.
Triple H and CM Punk’s differences
When CM Punk ended his association with the Stamford-based promotion in early 2014, he was one of the biggest attractions in the pro wrestling industry. As he walked out of WWE, it was speculated that it could have been due to his issues with Vince McMahon and also those with Kennedy’s son-in-law, Triple H.
Even though HHH and Punk had real-life heat at that time, their differences probably came to an end earlier this year. It was reported that the former WWE star was backstage for the April 24, 2023, episode of RAW, and he even met The Game. (Via- GIVEMESPORT)

In an unexpected turn of events, the former rivals shook hands and talked to each other in a healthy manner. As CM had a good interaction with Triple H, it seems that they’ve settled their past issues. If that’s really true, there won’t be any issues in Punk’s path of making a return to the Stamford-based promotion, and he could definitely be considering it.
WWE might give the respect CM Punk deserves
One of the major reasons behind Punk‘s recent issues in All Elite Wrestling was that the former AEW star felt he wasn’t given the respect he deserved. If The Best in the World really wants to get the respect he deserves at his workplace, WWE might be the best place for him. The promotion’s recent handling of John Cena is one major sign of how well they treat their veteran workers.

As the 16-time World Champion was ready for a return to the company, the Triple H-led promotion wasted no time and gave him the opportunity to get some well-deserved screen time. The Cenation Leader returned to SmackDown’s September 1 episode and was also given the privilege of being the host of WWE Payback.
If Punk has taken note of the Stamford-based promotion’s recent way of treating their veteran performers, he could be making up his mind to make a shift to his former company. If he really does, his WWE return will guarantee a number of exciting storylines down the line.
CM Punk can renew an iconic rivalry in WWE
If not for any of the aforementioned reasons, The Best in the World could be returning to WWE to renew an iconic rivalry. Restarting one of the most historic feuds in the promotion’s history, Punk can be entering a feud against his legendary rival John Cena.
As The Cenation Leader is scheduled to make seven consecutive appearances in the Stamford-based promotion, his in-ring future looks fine. Thus, his past rival, CM Punk, returning to start a high-profile rivalry with Cena could be best for business, and also for these performers.

Now that the former AEW Champion has been terminated from the Jacksonville-based promotion, this rivalry could eventually turn into reality. In a true sense, there cannot be a bigger reason for the former WWE Champion to return to the Triple H-led promotion than a feud against John.
However, it solely depends on what the former AEW star decides about his future in the pro wrestling industry. Do you think he’ll be making a return to the company he left nearly a decade ago? If yes, do let us know in the comments below.
