Before stepping away from the organization in 2022, the actress was a part of the UN for nearly 21 years. However, some recently surfaced pictures have raised a lot of questions about the authenticity of her work and a former UFC fighter has just pointed it out!
Some pictures of Angelina Jolie went viral where she was hugging an underprivileged child. The photo painted a picture of empathy, something that Jolie has shown on several occasions. However, as it turns out, it was a cropped photo, and some key details were left out of the image. In the full picture, the child can be seen tied to a piece of stick.

It made the former UFC welterweight title contender, Jake Shileds, reply with, “WTF.” Jake Shields is never far away from chipping in with his two cents on any kind of controversial topic. Following Jordan Neely’s death in the Manhattan Subway, Shields defended the 24-year-old former Marine who allegedly held Neely in a rear-naked choke submission for 10-15 minutes.

Why was the child tied while taking a photo with Angelina Jolie?
The picture of Angelina Jolie posing with the tied child has gone viral online. Upon seeing the photo, many netizens such as Jake Shields had a very negative reaction, and understandably so. Hence, it is always important to know the real context behind a still image. According to a report from SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES, the image was clicked in February 2007.
As previously mentioned, the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” actress was a UN ambassador from 2001-2022. As a part of the UN, she visited the Oure Cassoni refugee camp in the African country, Chad. During her visit, she ran into the child in question and came to know the real story behind it. Apparently, the child’s mother and her other four children fled to Chad due to the civil war in the Darfur region of western Sudan.
However, the child tried to run away from his family and reportedly suffered injuries during the process. Hence, seeing no other option, the mother had to tie him up for his own safety. Speaking about the incident, Jolie added, “As a first reaction you want to remove (the rope). But the mother, she has four other kids, she’s by herself. Therapists visit him, but if (he’s) left alone he will disappear or bang himself.” (h/t via Australian Associated Press)
So it does appear that the image was misleading and did not accurately represent the whole context behind it. Jolie herself has adopted three children. She adopted Maddox Chivan in 2002, and Zahara Marley in 2005. Her other adopted child is Pax Thien, whom she adopted following the birth of her daughter with Brad Pitt, Shiloh Nouvel. Pitt and Jolie also have twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, who were born in 2008.
