SUMMARY
- Alex Pereira shares a latest update about his weight on Instagram.
- The Brazilian fighter last faced Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 and won the light heavyweight title.
Alex Pereira has been the talk of the town in recent times and the main reason for that would be the questions over his next fight. The Brazilian fighter last fought at Madison Square Garden against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295’s main event. He became the UFC light heavyweight champion that night, thanks to a second-round TKO at 4:08. Pereira was also the fastest to win two UFC titles, achieving in just his 7th fight.
Since then, there have been rumors about when Poatan will set foot on the octagon once again. Several reports have emerged mentioning that he could make an appearance at UFC 300, which hasn’t been confirmed until now. The fighter recently took to Instagram to display his fitness progress. He mentioned on his Instagram story, “104.6kg,” which converts into around 230 lbs.
That only means that the Brazilian superstar is now almost at the same weight as the great Stipe Miocic. The American fighter last fought at UFC 260 against Francis Ngannou and weighed in at 234 lbs. The Predator got his revenge against Miocic at UFC Apex with a second-round knockout.
After starting the first round on the back foot, Miocic went back down but managed to recover well. However, despite even landing a right hand, the American could not dodge Ngannou’s deadly left hook, which put Miocic on the canvas for good this time. Ngannou’s knockout stunned many, but some pointed out the 30-pound weight difference between the two since The Predator was at 264 lbs for that fight.
Will Alex Pereira move up to heavyweight at UFC 300?
UFC 300 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated upcoming events and Pereira’s presence will only boost the popularity of the event. The most likely fight for the Brazilian could be a rematch against Israel Adesanya in the middleweight class. Pereira beat Adesanya at UFC 287 with a TKO in the second round. He weighed in at just 185 lbs, which looks like a huge gap considering his weight now.
But there was some speculation that he could make a move at a third weight class in the future after a mystery Instagram post made waves. However, the fighter addressed all those rumors in December 2023. He said in an interview with The Mac Life, “Well, [I] fought at middleweight and then [I] had to listen to [my] body to go up and fight at light heavyweight,” Pereira said through his translator. “[I’m] a fighter bro, [I’m] willing to fight. [I’ll] fight anybody, anywhere.”
“But, this kind of thing – [I have] the height and [am] basically the size of a heavyweight, but this is the kind of thing that has to be programmed, put some work in, it’s not something to just jump in on an adventure like that,” he added.
His recent weight update at 230 lbs has just added fuel to the fire. He was at 204 lbs at UFC 295, the last time he fought. Although a fight in the heavyweight class at UFC 300 may be an exaggeration, his Instagram story has surely added fuel to the fire. Only time will tell how Pereira decides to go about his career in the future.
