Damian Lillard and his situation with the Portland Trail Blazers is something that has kept the NBA fans and media engaged for a while now. As most of us are aware, Lillard is one of the few stars in the league who has remained loyal to his team for the bulk of his NBA career without ever winning an NBA title.
Although several players have decided to move on to other teams in the past. There are also a fair few who showed loyalty to their team and rode it out throughout their careers regardless of the result. Since Lillard is considered by many to be one of the best point guards of this generation, fans were eagerly awaiting to hear what he had to say about his situation. Let us take a closer look and find out.
Damian Lillard isn’t sure if he will spend his entire career with the Portland Trail Blazers
Lillard himself pointed out the crux of the issue. Ring culture is growing increasingly dominant amongst current-day NBA fans. People simply don’t respect or remember players who have never won NBA championships. Several great players in NBA history such as Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, and Allen Iverson have never won championships. Therefore, they are never really included in conversations about the greatest players ever.
Coming back to Lillard, he has already made it clear that he is loyal to the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he recently made it clear that he only has a certain amount of control over the future and that things could always change.
“I just have a way that I want to get things done for myself. That doesn’t mean that things can never change. … I just have my stance on what I want to see happen, but in this business, you just never know.”

Damian might be making a valid point. Even though we are in an era of player empowerment, the franchise’s management has the final say when it comes to whether they want to keep or move on from a player. At the end of the day, loyalty is a two-way street and that is what he seems to be implying.

At the end of the day, Dame can’t control the direction his franchise decides to take. They have been unable to put enough firepower around him to truly compete. He should merely hope that his team rewards his loyalty by giving him a say or choice when it comes to his destination if they move him in the future.
