SUMMARY
- Sheryl Swoopes' critical comments on Caitlin Clark attracted a lot of negative criticism.
- Jason Whitlock recently slammed Swoopes claiming her comments were racially driven.
A couple of weeks ago, women’s basketball Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes landed herself in hot water. She attracted a lot of harsh criticism following her hot take on Caitlin Clark’s achievements. This ended up resulting in a feud and fans believed that Swoopes was completely out of line with her comments.
On Gilbert Arena’s podcast, Swoopes said, “If Kelsey Plum set that in four years, well Caitlin should have broken that record in four years. But because there’s a COVID year and then there’s another year, you know what I mean? So she’s already had an extra year to break that record.”
Not only was Swoopes’ research completely off point but she also falsely claimed that Clark was in her fifth year in college. While a particular batch of college athletes were given the chance to compete for a fifth year, Clark never fell in that category. The 22-year-old managed to break Plum’s record within the number of games she took to set it. Clark is also in her fourth and final year in college.
Jason Whitlock shares a controversial take on Sheryl Swoopes’ incorrect analysis of Caitlin Clark
Famed American columnist Jason Whitlock has had his moments in controversy before. However, he also had a take on what Sheryl Swoopes had to say about Clark’s achievements. Whitlock wasn’t afraid of calling out Swoopes’ poor attitude either.
He said, “She’s made her skin color an idol. That’s why in that podcast interview, she’s wearing a t-shirt that stated ‘I AM BLACK HISTORY.’” Whitlock added, “So what if she said a bunch of ridiculous things about Caitlin Clark, Swoopes is a history-making Black queen! She’s above accountability! She owes no apologies!”
“She’s free to adopt the attitudes, behaviors, and excuses… because her bigotry is inconsequential and/or justified! Her ancestors were mistreated, [and] she’s earned the privilege to mistreat others! Like a lot of dumb jocks, she’s immersed in the worship of the Black matriarchy,” he concluded his rant. Whitlock believes that Swoopes’ comments were based on her biased stance on race.

The Iowa Hawkeyes point guard recently declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft. Swoopes once again commented on Clark’s decision. According to USA Today, she said, “I don’t know who’s more relieved, Caitlin or her fans, but I mean, great news for the league, great news for women’s basketball. Best of luck. It’s going to be an exciting time wherever she ends up going.”
“It is not just good for women’s college basketball. It is, to your point, good for women’s basketball in general. And Caitlin has had that effect on the game,” she concluded. Clark is projected to become the No.1 overall pick for the Indiana Fever. The draft is just over a month away and fans have been excited to see Clark grow.
