SUMMARY
- Wilt Chamberlain was arguably the best scorer the NBA has ever seen.
- During the 1961-62 season, he scored 100 points in a single game.
Wilt Chamberlain was probably the best scorer the NBA ever had the privilege of coming across. His career took place during an era when centers dominated the league. During the 60s and early 70s, the league did not have a three-point line as it wasn’t introduced at the time. So considering that Chamberlain scored as many points as he did was the stuff of gods.
During the 1961-62 season, Wilt was with the Philadelphia Warriors (now known as the Golden State Warriors). It was during this season that he averaged a staggering 50.4 points, 25.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game stat line. And during one occasion against the New York Knicks, he scored a whopping 100 points to lead the Warriors to a victory. Recently, an X account called Buttcrack Sports released highlights from that game.

Fans immediately caught onto the fact that it wasn’t real footage from the game. This account primarily posts fake news and rumors to get clicks. Unfortunately, there is no video evidence of Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points. However, there is only statistical proof of it. During that season, Wilt recorded multiple 60-point performances including two 70-point games as well. He had three consecutive 60-point games leading up to his performance against the Knicks.
NBA only has proof of the final quarter of Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game
Over the years, fans have been trying to do some digging to find footage of Wilt Chamberlain dominating the floor. However, nobody has ever come close to uncovering anything related to that particular game. But the NBA has released a radio clipping of commentator Bill Campbell covering the final quarter of the game. The clipping is available on the NBA’s official website.
Chamberlain has set records that may never be easily broken by players of this generation. The game has evolved since then and there are new rules that may restrict players from achieving the goal of breaking the record. But a few NBA stars have come extremely close to breaking his record recently. Kobe Bryant once scored 81 points in 2006, which was the closest anyone has ever been.
Joel Embiid, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, and Devin Booker are the only players on the current roster who’ve touched the 70-point mark. Athletes are slowly finding it easier to score big numbers. The last three 70-point games have come within the last two seasons. This is a very rare phenomenon as well. The future of the league seems to be exceedingly successful based on what we can see today.
