Sian Cotton is a very well-known name in Akron, Ohio. Back in the day, he dominated the basketball court with one of the NBA’s biggest players of all time, LeBron James. The high school team that they played in became one of the most successful ones during the early 2000s. St. Vincent – St. Mary’s Fighting Irish basketball team went down in history as an iconic group.
LeBron’s high school team, popularly known as the Fab 5 featured Travis Romeo, Dru Joyce III, Willie McGee, and Sian as well. Cotton was the fourth addition to the roster. He was introduced to James and Willie by Joyce III’s father who attended the same church as him. Sian was never interested in playing basketball nor did he compete on any team back in high school. He loved football and baseball, two of the most popular American sports.
LeBron encouraged Cotton to practice basketball and the Fighting Irish eventually added him to the roster. They won three state titles and achieved national level recognition as well. The Irish’s games were televised on a pay-per-view basis and this was because of how well they played.
Their success even earned the interest of rival athletes. Travis was from a rival school but joined the school of the Fighting Irish. They only lost six games in four seasons and are technically undefeated with James on the court.
