SUMMARY
- Spencer Dinwiddie wanted to join the Lakers back in 2013.
- He will have to come off the bench to replace Austin Reaves or D'Angelo Russell if the Lakers trade for him.
An X post made over a decade ago by Spencer Dinwiddie has resurfaced in the wake of current events. As many NBA fans should be aware by now, Dinwiddie is an NBA star who last played for the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets traded him to the Raptors as the NBA trade deadline approached and reports revealed that Toronto planned to waive him and buy out his contract.
Since that would mean DInwiddie becoming a free agent, several trade reports soon emerged indicating that Spencer had a strong desire to play alongside LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. It turns out that Dinwiddie has been wanting to be a part of the Lakers for more than a decade with his X post going all the way back to 2013.

Although Spencer would clearly like to join the Los Angeles Lakers and be given another chance to jumpstart his NBA career, fans are still conflicted as to whether the Lakers should bring on the 30-year-old star to their roster.
How will Spencer Dinwiddie fit on the Lakers?
Under the assumption that the Lakers decide to acquire Spencer Dinwiddie, one might still want to know how he could potentially fit in with the team. After all, the Lakers already have D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves as their backcourt guards.
In the event that the Lakers made Dinwiddie an offer, he will likely not be a starter over Russell and Reaves. Spencer could be a part of the second unit and lead the charge when the main starters are taking some rest. He will also be able to replace one of the guards in the event that they are having off-shooting nights. Most importantly, he would be a solid backup guard in the case that DLo or Reaves sustain an injury.
Which other player Can the Lakers be targeting from the buyout market?
At the NBA trade deadline, several veterans were sent to bottom-tier teams and are expected to be waived in the near future. Both Seth Curry and Kyle Lowry were moved to the Charlotte Hornets and are likely to be bought out. In that case, the Lakers should certainly consider acquiring the younger Curry brother since he is also a good shooter in his own right.
