Brandon Miller has been facing a rough patch lately, not on the basketball court but outside of the sport. He was one of the best prospects out of this year’s NBA Draft and he was selected No.2 overall by the Charlotte Hornets. So far, he has shown great potential on both sides of the floor. The Hornets are slowly accumulating promising pieces that they can build around in the future.

But Miller’s future may or may not exist based on how the Jamea Harris murder lawsuit pans out. For context, the Hornets forward was involved in the wrongful murder of Harris outside the University of Alabama. The incident stemmed as one of his former teammates, Darius Miles got into a heated confrontation with Harris’ boyfriend and his cousin while they jumped from club to club in Tuscaloosa.
At one point, Harris, her boyfriend, and his cousin pulled over in their car before they were approached by Miles and another Alabama student-athlete named Michael Lynn Davis. The argument continued before Davis reached out for a gun and shot Harris in the face. She passed away on the spot. Miles and Davis were charged with capital one murder. They are currently under police custody.
Jamea Harris’ mother claims Brandon Miller should held accountable for the murder
Here is how Brandon Miller got involved. On the night of the murder, Miles had asked him to bring the gun to the scene. He told the court that he simply followed as he was instructed to do. He claimed he had no idea of the confrontation that was taking place. Before Brandon was summoned by Miles, the defendant had allegedly left the gun in the Hornets player’s car. Despite being let off the hook, Harris’ mother DeCarla Heard is seeking damages for his involvement.
Heard stated, “[Miller] should have known that bringing a dangerous weapon to a dispute and discharging said weapon would likely result in harm to those around them.” Miller’s attorney backed him up by emphasizing that the rookie wasn’t aware of any altercation. He added that Brandon did not know that the gun was going to be used to harm someone either.

Initially, the jury let him off the hook as there simply wasn’t enough evidence against him. Brandon Miller has been focusing on his basketball career and is set to officially take on the mainstages soon. However, if the jury rules the case against him, chances are he will face severe consequences that may put his career into jeopardy.
