Cooper Flagg is a name that is quickly becoming famous in the basketball world. This young talent has been making headlines and is currently a student at the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. However, Flagg’s journey started in the small town of Newport, Maine, where his love for basketball first developed.
During his early years, Flagg attended Nokomis Regional High School at Newport. He became the first freshman to be named the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. He averaged 20.5 points, 10 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 3.7 steals, and 3.7 blocks per game. Under his leadership, Nokomis secured the Class A state championship, with Flagg scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds in the final against Falmouth High School.
After his freshman year, Cooper Flagg took a big step in his basketball journey by transferring to Montverde Academy. His transition to Montverde was a step forward to a higher level of basketball competition and training.

Before the start of his first year at the school, Flagg played in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) for the Florida Eagles, an Amateur Athletic Union team affiliated with Montverde. His performances were outstanding, earning him the MVP title at the 2023 Hoophall Classic after leading Montverde to an 85–63 victory over La Lumiere Academy.
He was also a semifinalist for the Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award. During this season, he averaged 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and three assists per game. Following this season, he played for Maine United in the EYBL and averaged 25.4 points, 13 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 6.9 blocks in seven games at the Peach Jam tournament.
Currently in his senior year, Flagg is averaging 16.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 18 games. He was ranked as the third-best prospect in the 2025 recruiting class after his freshman season, and later as the second-best recruit in August 2022.
On October 30, 2023, Flagg verbally committed to play for Duke after also considering an offer from UConn. He officially signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Blue Devils with Duke on November 8, 2023, during the early signing period.
Apart from high school, Flagg’s international stats are also impressive. He played a key role in the United States’ under-17 team at the 2022 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup. Averaging 9.3 points, 10 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, and 2.4 steals per game, he greatly helped the team to win the gold medal. He was also named the 2022 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year, the youngest ever to receive this award.
