The James family is never out of the news. Bryce James, the younger son of NBA superstar LeBron James, was in town and at Ohio State’s football game against Maryland on Saturday, which the Buckeyes won 37-17. Following the game, James announced on social media that he had gotten an offer from Ohio State.
Bryce James might be a Buckeye very soon. On Saturday, the 16-year-old said that he had gotten a scholarship to play basketball at Ohio State University in Columbus, which is only 125 miles from Akron, where his father was born and raised.

He posted an Instagram post about his visit on his personal account, while highly regarded 2026 point guard Dezhon Hall, who was also on an unofficial visit, posted photographs of him with James on his social media. There were also social media posts from the football game showing James conversing with Ohio State men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann.
Bryce’s signing promises to be important in the coming years. Ohio State was a contender for his older brother, Bronny James, who ultimately chose USC. Bryce just switched to Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, after spending two years as his brother’s teammate at Sierra Canyon High School. On August 22, he earned his first scholarship offer from Duquesne.
Bryce James is a three-star recruit in the class of 2025
According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-6 shooting guard is a three-star recruit in the class of 2025. Cameron Boozer, the son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, is the class’s top prospect. While LeBron comes late to the party, his wife and mother of three celebrated Bryce James’ latest achievement. That is, being rated for the class of 2025.
The 16-year-old has the potential to be a 5-star recruit for the 2025 class. Bryce recently enrolled at Notre Dame High School in the Los Angeles region. It will be his first year with the new squad, which has a history of winning state championships in California. James had a strong junior season debut. The sky is the limit for him.
Savannah, Bryce’s mother, joined him and a couple of his teammates on an unofficial visit to Ohio State over the weekend. It was James’ first visit to a college. Given the James family’s links to Ohio and LeBron James’ fondness for the Buckeyes, it’s no surprise that his first destination would be in Columbus.
LeBron James went right from high school to the NBA, but if he had gone to college, he may have ended up at Ohio State. Bryce has until 2025 to make a decision, so he will undoubtedly visit other colleges. Still, Ohio State is his first known visit.
