Stephen Jackson and the Indiana Pacers had a rough time before the start of the 2006-07 season. The Pacers were fairly fresh off a great season, and the infamous “Malice at the Palace” as well. Things were slowly getting back together before all hell broke loose in the streets of Indianapolis. According to a few sources, Jackson would have lost his life if things had escalated even further. However, he made use of his firearm which was registered.
Just after the training camp session, Jackson decided to party with Marquis Daniels, Al Harrington, Jamaal Tinsley, and Jimmie Hunter. After spending the night out at Club Rio things got heated. In March 2020, Jackson reiterated the story on the All The Smoke Podcast. It seemed as if there was already an argument going on before Jackson went to defend his teammate Jamaal. Jackson fired a shot from his 9mm pistol to scare the attackers away. However, that didn’t stop another person from attacking him.
“I was running to my car, one of they n****s got in they car and sized me up in the parking lot. And hit me going like 35 or 40 miles per hour. Boom knocked me in the air, I hit the ground… my face just hitting the ground. I stand up and all my teeth are gone, my lips shattered. And I was kinda out of it,” he said. Jackson was hit quite badly, but the adrenaline helped him continue fighting and defending his teammates.
Stephen Jackson received a reality check after leaving the club
Stephen Jackson continued to explain the entire scenario as his podcast co-host Matt Barnes listened. He said, “As I shot my last shot, I passed out. I wake up at the back of the car with Marquis and the police in the police. Just for the simple fact that they had all of us arrested but they had me in the car and I was unconscious.” The police allegedly cuffed the others because they must’ve believed that they were responsible for Jackson’s state.

However, Jackson claimed that he and his teammates were left off the hook after ten minutes of interrogation. The former Pacers player claimed that he and the rest of the squad were not in the best state of mind. They eventually met with a few other teammates at a gas station. Jermaine O’Neal was present there as well. O’Neal gave Jackson a hilarious reality check.
“We all had guns, we all were gonna go tear some sh*t up. I was ready to kill everything moving,” Stephen Jackson said. He continued, “Jermaine O’Neal stopped me and said, ‘J, I feel all this sh*t you talking about… I wanna kill somebody too, but you got to go to the hospital.’” Jackson claimed that’s when he started to feel the pain sink in. The Pacers guard walked away with a few minor injuries but narrowly escaped death as well.
