Malika Andrews has lately become quite a popular figure in the NBA community. To those who do not know, Malika is a prominent member of the NBA media and hosts a show called NBA Today as part of ESPN. Many fans might remember her from the television interviews she has conducted online with NBA stars such as Ja Morant.
Considering that Malika is only 28 years old, there is no denying that she has been successful so far in her life. However, fans might be startled to know that Malika has struggled and tried her hand at different things in the past. With that being said, let us take a closer look at what Andrews had to say about her early life when being interviewed.
When did Malika Andrews join ESPN and begin NBA coverage?
During an interview on a monthly series called Office Hours by ELLE.com, Andrews was asked to share details about the other jobs that she has tried her hand at. Malika revealed that she was a waitress at IHOP, ” I was a hostess at IHOP.” She also shared that one of the worse jobs she ever worked included cleaning the manure from horses, “Or, I cleaned horse poop out of stalls for a summer. That was not great…”
We are certainly in agreement with Malika Andrews that cleaning horse stalls is no easy feat. Since she has no reason to demean herself, there is no reason to doubt this story or question its legitimacy. She has undoubtedly come a long way from tending to animals. After all, fans will remember that Malika was allowed to handle the coverage of the 2023 NBA Finals. If that isn’t a giant leap in the direction toward success, nothing is.
Although Andrews has grown quite respected across the NBA community after joining ESPN in 2018, she has not been perfect and called out for her coverage of certain issues. Especially those that struck a personal chord and seemed to trigger her sense of morals.
There were a lot of haters due to her actions. Many of them might believe that she doesn’t know enough about real-world events. Since she has worked tougher jobs than most of her critics, we are sure she is able to keep looking forward and doing a better job the next time.
