Just like any other game, the community of Minecraft too has been on a mission to improve the game further ever since its launch in 2009. The number of mods available for the game is countless. These community built mods can add a layer of ease and excitement to the sandbox game.
Players get to choose what they would like to add to their game and make it more personalized. Players can choose the mod they wish and install that specific mod to enjoy the best experience as per their preferences.
How to install mods in Minecraft?
Mods, in general, be it Minecraft mods or any other game are only made for PCs and Mac devices. Consoles and mobile devices do not support mods. Here’s a guide on how to install mods on Windows and Mac.
There are multiple ways to get Minecraft mods on Windows PC and MAC. Among them, the easiest and the most common method is via a third party application known as Forge. Here’s how to install Minecraft mods with Forge. Notably the first two steps are the same for both Windows and Mac.
- Step 1: Visit the official Forge website and download the recommended version of the software. Alternatively, players can install the latest version of Forge, however, it can bring in some unresolved bugs that can affect the device’s ability to run some mods.
- Step 2: Players must download the mods they want to install from a reliable source. There are hundreds of mods to choose from and CurseForge is a popular location with a great variety. Before downloading players must check the compatibility of the mod with their version of Minecraft as well as their device.
On Windows
- Step 3: After downloading the mods, players must then create a “mods” folder in the ‘.minecraft’ directory on their PC. Here’s the target address: C:/Users[yourname]/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft
If the AppData folder cannot be found in File Explorer, players must click View at the top of the app and then check Hidden Items. Notably, if players are installing their first mod, the “mods” folder will not exist within the .minecraft folder. In this case, players must create a new folder within the .minecraft folder and name it “mods.”
- Step 4: Players need to then move the downloaded mod into the Mods folder.
- Step 5: Next players need to run Minecraft, however, it is important to make sure the Forge account is active, otherwise the mods won’t load properly.
Apart from Forge, there are several other mod launchers too such as LiteLoader. So players can make use of more than one launcher to find the perfect mix.
On Mac
After following the first two steps and downloading the mods, Mac users can then follow the instructions given below:
- Step 3: Create the “mods” folder in the Minecraft directory. The target address will be: ‘~/Library/Application Support/minecraft’
The folder can be quickly accessed using the Command + Shift + G keyboard shortcut. Players can also open Finder, click Go on the menu bar, and access the Library folder by clicking on the Option key. Then they must open Application Support followed by Minecraft.
- Step 4: Players need to right-click within that folder select New Folder option on the pop-up menu, and name it “mods.”
- Step 5: Then move the downloaded mod into the new Mods folder.
- Step 5: Players can then run Minecraft and the mods will be installed.
That’s how players can download and enjoy Minecraft mods on PC. As for console and mobile users, they can install add-ons to get additional stuff in the game.
