The world of online influencers suffers an unfortunate loss recently as Lil Tay passes away. Lil Tay aka Claire Hope was only 14 years of age at the time of her passing. However, not only her, Tay’s brother has also passed away according to a statement released by her family on Tay’s social media platforms.
Lil Tay is no stranger to controversies online. She became popular with the masses for her viral videos in 2018. Tay often posted videos of herself flexing cash and making it seem like she was living a very luxurious lifestyle despite being only 9 years of age at the time. Not only that, but she was also making waves in the world of hip-hop and had a viral collaboration infamous rapper, 6ix9ine.
While unfortunate, her death also raises a lot of questions as well! During the statement released by her family, there was no mention of her cause of death.

Claiming that the incident is under investigation, the statement read, “This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock. Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief. During this time of immense sorrow, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss, as the circumstances of Claire and her brother’s passing are still under investigation.”
Lil Tay often made headlines for all the wrong reasons. She was once involved in a viral feud online with fellow influencer Bhad Bhabie, who became insanely famous for her confrontation with Dr. Phil and her catchphrase, “Cash me outside.” Despite being a very well-known celebrity, in her final few years of life, Lil Tay went missing from the limelight.
There were several videos that hinted at Tay’s content being scripted. Talking about it, former UFC champ Tyron Woodley added, “This is my take on it. One, this video was even leaked for the purpose to show everybody. This wasn’t an accidental video that accidentally came out. She posted this on purpose.” Woodley further added that the videos were designed to drum up more interest in her.
Why did Lil Tay stop making content?
Lil Tay made her YouTube channel on January 25, 2015, and the channel so far has more than 4.2 million views. However, currently, there are only two videos on the channel and one of them features Jake Paul. So obviously, there is a question amongst the fan base about why she stopped making any content in 2018.
Before she went missing from the public eye, it was discovered that her riches in the videos were fake. While the cars in her videos were reportedly owned by her mother’s boss, the houses came thanks to her mother herself. According to a Dexerto report, she was a real estate agent and the houses were reportedly on the market to be sold. Hence, Tay reportedly took advantage of that for the videos.
As for her sabbatical from fame, she posted an Instagram story with the quote, “help me,” on July 5, 2018. Since then, there have been claims that she was allegedly forced to move back to Canada to her father where he allegedly abused Lil Tay and her mother. However, her father claimed that he was concerned for her safety due to her fame.
She was also reportedly sent under house arrest in 2018. While Claire Hope revealed that the circumstance behind it was confidential, there was no further elaboration on it. After that, there was only one post on her Instagram profile and it was extremely concerning. In 2021, an Instagram story was shared with the quote, “we have bad news about tay…”
So it remains a mystery as to why she decided to stop making content. However. one can imagine her tumultuous personal life may have played a big part in it. So what are your thoughts on the matter? Let us know in the comments down below.
