UFC Veteran and perennial contender Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier has given his thoughts on the upcoming matchup between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira this weekend. The Louisiana native spoke about his experience fighting the former Champ Oliveira.
‘The Diamond’ also sheds light upon the speculations and rumors of him having his next fight in the welterweight division. A prediction for the Makhachev vs Oliveira fight followed suit.
In a recent interview, Poirier stated: “That’s a really tough one. I am leaning towards Oliveira. Only because I’ve been in there with him. And I know how dangerous he is.”
El Diamante spoke about how he’s about to fight the former Bellator champion, Michael Chandler. He said that recently, the sport has grown and evolved beyond anything we’ve ever seen.

What’s next for Dustin Poirier?
Poirier’s last fight was, against Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira, in which he was choked out at One minute and three seconds of the third round. Coming off of back-to-back KO and TKO wins over the MMA sensation and world-renowned superstar Conor McGregor, most of the fans considered Poirier to be the credible champ.
He voluntarily made the decision to take the high-paying fight with ‘The Notorious’ over the Championship fight against Charles Oliveira/Michael Chandler. This led to the latter two fighting for the title and Oliveira become the champion in the process.
Both the McGregor fights hugely played out in his favor and he was able to build his following, along with earning significant amounts of money. As Dustin was riding the hype in complete control though, with the image of him wrapping gold around his back not that far away, his dreams were shattered by the young and Enlightened Oliveira.
The Lightweight also hinted towards a move to the welterweight division someday in the near future. Contrary to the rumors circulating all over the internet though, Poirier’s rejection of the welterweight did not come as a surprise, as there was always an element of him staying at lightweight so that he could go for the title. That’s something that won’t be as easy at welterweight.

Long story short, Dustin has picked Oliveira to beat the Russian in his next fight. Poirier claims that Oliveira has significant power to end the fight on his feet. He also believes that he has enough of an arsenal of skills that he can show off when they fight.
