Former WWE Champion and current AEW Superstar CM Punk is one of the most influential names in professional wrestling. The ‘Best in the World‘ has been a major draw in the industry ever since his days in World Wrestling Entertainment.
The Megastar stayed away from the world of professional wrestling for over seven years after his WWE exit in 2014. His return was long awaited by fans, and he finally made his highly anticipated return to wrestling by making his debut on August 20, 2021, on AEW Rampage.
In a vintage interview video that has been going viral on YouTube, a WWE Veteran revealed stunning details of how things unfolded between him and Vince McMahon regarding CM Punk. The veteran is none other than Punk’s former advocate, Paul Heyman.
In the viral shorts video, the interviewer asks Heyman about his WWE exit and the exact scenario behind it. The question was, “You didn’t leave WWE on great terms? What was the exact scenario behind it?”
Replying to the question, Heyman said, “Horrible terms. The scenario was that I believed in CM Punk, and Vince McMahon didn’t. We got into fights about it. When one of us has to leave town, the Chairman of the board and the majority stakeholder of the company are usually going to win.”
Did Vince McMahon fire CM Punk on his wedding day?
Punk‘s last match in the WWE was his participation in the 2014 Royal Rumble Match. Following this match, Punk later walked out on WWE. His walkout from WWE was one of the most talked-about things at the time, and he even revealed the reason behind it. CM Punk revealed WWE fired him on his wedding day, and it was the last straw.
Punk revealed, “The day of my wedding, I got a FedEx in the mail. It was my termination paper. I was fired. So, take that, everyone who says I need to be. I’m a quieter person on Twitter. I was fired on my wedding day. Very calculated and deliberate.
“As much as I chuckled at it and didn’t let it affect my day, I was like, Once again, you pushed too fucking far; you pushed the wrong guy.’ There’s no working relationship, and there never will be one again. That wedding day thing, you know, is pretty ridiculous,” Punk said.
Even Vince McMahon addressed this topic during an interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Vince made an attempt to clear up any confusion on the matter and also offered a public apology to Punk.
It’s safe to say that Vince McMahon‘s coincidental firing of CM Punk on his wedding day didn’t sit well with Punk. The whole coincidence further increased the tensions between the two parties. Punk has made it clear on multiple occasions that he will never again have a working relationship with WWE. Do you think Punk will ever come back to the WWE?
