The rising star of the UFC welterweight division, Khamzat Chimaev has fired a shot towards the champion, Kamaru Usman. In a recent post on social media, Chimaev stated:
“All of you have lost. I am undefeated and I am the champ here.”
Kamaru Usman has only one loss in his MMA career. He lost his second MMA fight to Jose Caceres. But, since then he has evolved into one of the greatest welterweights of all time. Usman has defeated most of the top UFC welterweights such as Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal, and Tyron Woodley. But, Khamzat Chimaev can be a huge problem for Usman.
Khamzat Chimaev is a decorated wrestler and he is an unstoppable force on the ground. Though we have not seen him against the top-ranked fighters yet we can expect he will give some problem to a lot of top UFC welterweights. But he is one of the biggest welterweights in UFC right now.
Kamaru Usman has a huge size advantage over a lot of his opponents such as Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, and even Jorge Masvidal. But, he won’t have a size advantage over Khamzat Chimaev. Besides that, Chimaev is a terrific striker and can put Usman in a lot of trouble. Though a fight between these two seems intriguing it’s too early to speculate a title fight for Chimaev. But it’s needless to say that Chimaev has his eyes on the champ.
Who is Khamzat Chimaev fighting next?
With 3 finishes in 3 fights, Khamzat Chimaev has taken the world of MMA by storm. Though he has not faced a ranked opponent yet his fighting style has won him millions of fans. He is unbeaten in his MMA career and he certainly seems like a championship-level fighter.
Even UFC was trying to give him a huge push by booking a fight against Leon Edwards who is on a 8 fight win streak in the welterweight division. Unfortunately, Khamzat Chimaev had to pull out from the fight due since he tested positive for COVID-19. However, he will likely get back into the octagon in July as per the latest report.
Khamzat Chimaev has called out ranked number 9 Neil Magny who will be coming off a loss to Michael Chiesa. Though this fight is not a done deal it is certainly an exciting matchup for Chimaev.
