Henry Cavill made his much-anticipated return to the DCU as Superman in the Dwayne Johnson starrer “Black Adam” last year. Johnson played an integral part in convincing Cavill to return as the iconic superhero character. Johnson’s idea was to do an ultimate face-off between Black Adam and Superman but the studio had other plans.
James Gunn and Peter Safran after their arrival at the helm of DCU scrapped all the previous projects and hit the reset button. This led to Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson leaving the franchise. The underwhelming box office collection of Black Adam also contributed to the decision.

Dwayne Johnson finally broke his silence regarding the situation recently and opened up the studio’s decision to recast Superman. Talking to ‘Variety,’ the former WWE champion compared the situation to a pro football team.
“It’s almost like when you have a pro football team, and your quarterback wins championships and the head coach wins championships. And you have a new owner, and the new owner comes in and says not my coach, not my quarterback, I’m going to go with somebody new.” he said. (H/T: The Direct)
The Jumanji actor also said that the plan for Black Adam was to deliver the best movie that they could. “Our audience score was in the 90s. Critics took a couple of shots. That’s just the business of it, though.” He said.
