George Russell made his Formula 1 debut with Williams Racing in 2019, and the optimism around this Mercedes junior was soaring, thanks to his incredible Formula 2 championship victory in 2018. Hence, even before making his debut in the elite racing series, quite a lot of rival teams were seeking an opportunity to swoop down and snatch him from the hands of Mercedes, but, in vain.
Consequently, one might wonder, how much could Russell be earning at Mercedes, considering the massive demand for the 25-year-old across the grid. Indeed, in his debut year, Russell had to accept a meager salary at Williams, mainly because of the team’s awry financial crisis. The F2 champion was one of the lowest-paid drivers on the grid earning $180,000 a year.
However, a seat at Mercedes was waiting at the end of the tunnel. Hence, staying at Williams seemed worthwhile for the hungry young lad. After three long years at the historic outfit, Russell finally received his long-awaited invitation from the Brackley outfit.
Mercedes were ready to offer Russell a drive alongside Lewis Hamilton for the 2022 season. According to reports, Russell signed a multi-year deal with the Toto Wolff-led outfit, which seemed to last for three years until the end of 2024.
Does George Russell earn more than Lewis Hamilton?
Now, we’ve arrived at the most crunch part of this article; what is Russell’s salary at Mercedes? Well, the truth is, it is nowhere close to what Hamilton is earning at the moment, which, of course, wouldn’t come as a surprise to many.

The seven-time world champion is currently earning approximately $35 million. Meanwhile, his fairly new teammate is earning around $8 million a year. It also looks like Russell could well be extending his contract at Mercedes beyond the 2024 F1 season.
Therefore, there is absolutely no doubt that he could embrace a massive spike in his pay over the coming years, be it at Mercedes or a rival team like Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, or even Aston Martin.
As of now, Russell is worth $16 million and is the owner of yachts, fancy watches, extravagant cars, and of course, luxurious properties. Interestingly though, his net value is expected to increase by at least $1 million by the end of this year.
Not only does he earn through Mercedes’ yearly salary, but, also through numerous endorsements. Russell is currently being endorsed by AMG, BRDC, Bell Helmets, Alpinestars, and Puma. Furthermore, with many more companies eyeing to endorse the Briton, his net value could witness a heftier inclination.
