Michael Schumacher does not seem to be done with Formula 1 even after his deadly accident. The German was once dominating the sport with his skills and his red car. Schumacher won two of his championships with Benetton before moving to Ferrari. With Ferrari however, he was unaware of what was coming for him and soon he won five consecutive championships.
Schumacher, however, announced his retirement just after. Although he would return again to join the Silver Arrows, Mercedes team, he did not win any championships further. It was in 2012 when Schumacher announced his retirement yet again this time revealing it was because of Lewis Hamilton that he took the steps.
After happily retiring from the sport with his success, the “big family guy” started spending more time with his kids. Unfortunately, in 2013, the ex-Ferrari driver met with a gruesome skiing accident. The champion hit his head on a large rock which would completely change his and his family’s lives. But even with his grotesque injury, Schumacher is not done with the sport yet.
Jean Todt confirms Michael Schumacher watches his son driving in F1
Jean Todt, who has been Schumacher’s team principal and a really close friend. He has been the only one to reach out to the German driver and actually spend time with him. The seven world champion has been off the grid ever since his accident. His wife, Corinna has taken drastic steps to maintain privacy surrounding Schumacher and his health.
However, Jean Todt is the only one who is able to reach out to the driver and sit with him. Although things are not the same with the driver, he believes that Schumacher is still there. Jean Todt told the German outlet, RTL, and quoted by Racing News 365, “I don’t miss Michael. I see him. Of course, I miss the things we used to do together,”
He then went on to mention Schumacher’s son, Mick who is driving in his second year of Formula 1. While he confessed he is proud of the young German, he also said that his father is watching the races with him. Jean Todt confirmed that he visits the Schumacher house, and watches the F1 races with him.
He added, “Yes, it is true. I watch races together with Michael,”
As the seven-time champion stays private and Corinna Schumacher does everything in her power to take care of him, Jean Todt has also taken it upon himself to reach out a helping hand to the German. While Michael’s son, Mick Schumacher, prepares to get back into Formula 1, he is still only a reserve driver for Mercedes.
Although there is been news of Mick replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams if there is no improvement in his performance, nothing is confirmed. Schumacher however, continues to help out in the Mercedes garage and can be seen analyzing the races.
