John Cena proposing to Nikki Bella after their mixed tag team match at WrestleMania 33 is definitely a moment that’ll make the WWE’s top 10 video series for years to come. While the moment was heartwarming for fans, their relationship didn’t last long. The couple called off their engagement one year after the infamous WrestleMania moment. Their wedding which was planned for May 5th, 2018 was also canceled by the WWE stars.
Nikki Bella in an interview with ET opened up about her failed relationship with the WWE legend. She said that things weren’t as bad between the two as people may think.
“You almost wish it was bad, because it’s so much easier to walk away, It’s so much harder to walk away when it’s loving.”
“I think a lot of women get into this situation when it’s like, ‘I love this person, but I don’t know if it’s right for my life,’ and that’s a hard thing. Sometimes we meet amazing people, but we’re just meant to live a different life. … I just got this feeling so deep in my gut of, like, ‘I need to walk away.’ And no one thought I would, but it was hitting me so hard. Even though it’s painful and even traumatizing, I just knew it was right.” She said.
John Cena and Nikki Bella Were Engaged
Cena and Bella were together for almost 6 years. They started dating in 2012 while the two were working together in the Stamford-based wrestling promotion. The couple got engaged in 2017 when Cena proposed to her in front of thousands of fans at WWE’s biggest show, WrestleMania. The wedding was later called-off due to personal reasons.
Following their failed relationship, both stars were able to find their soulmates soon. Nikki Bella started dating her dance partner at the “Dancing with the Stars” show Artem Chigvinstev in 2019. The former WWE Divas champion announced that she was pregnant during an episode of their reality TV show “Total Bellas.” She gave birth to Matteo Artemovich Chigvintsev in July 2020. Nikki and Chigvintsev got married on August 26, 2020.
John Cena married Canadian engineer Shay Shariatzadeh on October 12, 2020. The couple first met while Cena was filming “Playing With Fire” in 2019. Cena and Shariatzadeh rarely make any public appearances. The only glimpse of the pair that fans got to see was during their brief red carpet-appearances.

The 16-time WWE champion is now set to make his return to the WWE soon. He’s announced to appear on Raw for the March 6th edition. According to rumors, Cena is set to face the United States Champion Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood. Nikki Bella meanwhile is currently signed with the WWE as an ambassador. She is also the host of the American game show “Barmageddon”.
