SUMMARY
- Matt Hardy is open for business after ending his tenure with AEW.
- Recently, he opened up about the possibility of returning to WWE.
The Hardy Boyz have proven to be one of the most proficient tag teams throughout WWE history. As acknowledged legends, Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy have provided some of the most memorable moments. The pair would win the tag titles once more following their storied comeback to the company in 2017.
With their AEW contracts having ended, many were speculating that the Hardy Boys would make one more appearance in the WWE. By doing this, Matt Hardy attempted to allay rumors by making multiple postings on his X (formerly Twitter) account about Bray Wyatt. Matt recently gave an interview to Cultaholic Wrestling in which he talked about being a part of the Uncle Howdy storyline.
EXCLUSIVE: Matt Hardy says he won’t rule out a WWE return to be involved with Uncle Howdy.
“I just have such a storied history with Windham Rotunda, Bray Wyatt, that I am obviously going to be in consideration for that. It’s pro wrestling, you never say never.”

He stated that he had a long history with Bray in the past and would obviously be in consideration for the storyline. “I just have such a storied history with Windham Rotunda, Bray Wyatt, that I am obviously going to be in consideration for that. It’s pro wrestling, you never say never,” said Matt.
Hardy has been dropping several hints regarding his return to the world of professional wrestling and he did it with his return. Looking at his history with Wyatt, Matt might be involved in the story somewhere down the road.
Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt have a long storied history
Matt Hardy was known as “Woken” in the WWE at this time, and he played his “Broken Matt Hardy” gimmick from the independent scene. During this time, he formed a partnership with Bray Wyatt, and the two of them went on to win the tag titles. He later made an appearance in AEW, spending the entire time with his brother Jeff.
Matt recently shared videos of him competing against Wyatt in an Ultimate Deletion bout from 2018, as well as joining up with him. Fans surmised that Matt’s return to the company is imminent based on their speculations. Given their lengthy shared past, Matt may be a member of the group that Uncle Howdy belongs to.
Matt Hardy returned to TNA at Rebellion
Since his brother Jeff still had a few months left on his contract, there was some conjecture about whether or not longtime veteran Matt Hardy would eventually re-sign a deal with Tony Khan or test the free agency market after it was revealed that he had allowed his All Elite Wrestling contract to expire.
Matt Hardy made a comeback to TNA last weekend at their Rebellion event, bringing with him the “Broken” persona. It speaks much about Matt’s perseverance that, despite a thirty-year career, he was able to move between organizations and, for the most part, stay relevant.
The appearance of Jordynne Grace in the women’s Royal Rumble match earlier this year gave TNA as a whole and the segment more visibility. Thus, even though Matt Hardy is technically still bound by his TNA contract, it might not be too difficult for him to make an appearance for WWE.
Given the vignettes that seem to be hinting at Bo Dallas’s return and the rumors that Erik Rowan and Alexa Bliss will link up with him to create a stable modeled after Bray Wyatt, it’s plausible that Matt will join the faction. The broken gimmick may, in some ways, be a perfect fit for the Wyatt stable.
