It is estimated that Shigeru Miyamoto is worth $40 million. The main source of Shigeru Miyamoto’s wealth is his accomplishments as a Japanese producer, director, and designer of video games at Nintendo.
Shigeru Miyamoto’s association with Nintendo
His career in the industry started when he joined Nintendo as a staff artist in the late 1970s. He originally started working on arcade cabinet design. But Miyamoto’s big break came when he was offered the chance to design a new video game for Nintendo. He got his chance in Nintendo at the beginning of the 1980s.
This project eventually resulted in the creation of the enormously successful game Donkey Kong. Because of the game’s tremendous popularity, Miyamoto became recognized as a major player in the gaming industry and a pioneer in the field of video game design.
Since then, Miyamoto has worked with Nintendo to produce some of the greatest video games ever. The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero, Star Fox, Pikmin, and Wii are some of his works. Wii Sports is now the second-best-selling game of all time, while “Mario” is the best-selling franchise in history.
From the Nintendo Entertainment System, which was marketed outside of Japan as the Famicom in 1983, to the Nintendo Switch, which has sold around 130 million units, he has contributed to the design of every Nintendo console. Nintendo has sold over a billion copies of games using Shigeru Miyamoto’s designs since he joined the firm in 1977.
Having been employed with Nintendo for over forty-five years, he has served as the company’s representative since the 1990s. Together with the late, great former president Satoru Iwata and the brilliant hardware designer and Game Boy architect Gunpei Yokoi, he helped develop the company’s fun-first philosophy for video games and laid the groundwork for its long-term success.
In addition to overseeing Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis & Development software branch, he was a key contributor to the development of other well-known titles such as Metroid Prime and Pokemon Red and Blue.
Miyamoto took over as temporary president of Nintendo alongside Genyo Takeda when Satoru Iwata passed away in July 2015. He was then formally named a “Creative Fellow” a few months later. Shigeru Miyamoto is currently serving as one of the representative directors at Nintendo since 2002.
