The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone update on July 24th significantly dialed down the power of several weapons in the battle royale mode, including the M4 Assault Rifle. The patch notes also mention various bug fixes for both games.
This Warzone update has reduced the potency of several weapons such as the Lachmann-556, TAQ-56, and Tempus Razorback Assault Rifles; the Cronen Squall Battle Rifle; the Basilisk, FTAC Siege, and X13 Handguns; the MX Guardian Shotgun; the ISO 45 Submachine Gun and the fan favorite versatile AR, M4.
The update also brought in the following bug fixes:
– A bug that affected some players, preventing them from correctly receiving Battle Pass rewards, has been fixed.
– The issue where some players couldn’t open the Battle Pass has been solved.
– The problem preventing players from accessing Division Rewards in the Career & Rewards section of Warzone Ranked Play has been addressed.
What nerfs did M4 get in Call of Duty Warzone?
The M4 distinguishes and marks itself for versatility, proving effectual in multiple situations and game modes. It excels at both close-quarters and mid-range combats, setting players at ease to navigate various battle situations.
With significantly low recoil, the M4 ensures players’ shots maintain their trajectory, aiding in precision. This indeed favors players who acknowledge accuracy as their topmost game priority.
In the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone update, the M4 had its upper and lower torso multipliers decreased. The headshot multiplier of the TAQ-56 was reduced, while the Tempus Razorback saw a rise in minimum damage and increased limb multipliers.
After this update, many players were not happy with the following updates. One Reddit user commented, “The M4 was part of the homelander bundle. Good explanation, but they’re shooting themselves in the foot by nerfing a new operator pack.”
Another wrote, “They touched the M4, yet they didn’t touch the 600ms TTK SMGs.” While one reacted, “What the f*ck did the M4 have to do with this? Weird nerf.”
Another expressed similar disappointment, saying, “The only season I’ve used other stuff besides the variety is to max out all the XP. It’s probably my favorite assault rifle and the first one I maxed out. Also like the STB that way.”
Notably, the M4 enjoys high popularity among content creators and professional gamers. The consistent showcase of their preferred class setups and strategies through videos and streams amplifies its label as a “top-tier weapon.”
What other weapons got nerfed in COD MW2?
Not only the M4, but other weapons also received nerfs and buffs after the latest update. The Lachmann-556 experienced a decrease in maximum damage, an increase in mid-far damage, and a reduction in the headshot, neck, and upper torso multipliers.
Battle Rifles:
The Cronen Squall (Full Auto) had its maximum damage, close-mid damage, and minimum damage, as well as headshot multiplier, reduced. Additionally, a damage step was added at the mid-range level.
Handguns
The issue with the overpowered damage profile of the Akimbo Snakeshot Basilisk has been fixed. The FTAC Siege had its maximum damage reduced. An issue that resulted in the X13 Auto having a higher-than-intended damage profile has been repaired, and its maximum damage has been brought down.
Shotgun
The MX Guardian saw a decrease in damage across ranges – maximum, close-mid, mid, mid-far, and minimum.
Submachine Guns
The ISO 45’s issue of causing lower damage to the upper right leg than intended has been fixed.
Some Attachments and Ammunition changes
KV Broadside’s 12 Gauge Dragon’s Breath saw a decrease in close-mid damage. MX Guardian’s 12 Gauge Dragon’s Breath saw alterations in damage across ranges, with maximum, close-mid, and mid damage and damage range being reduced. However, the maximum and close-mid Damage Range saw an increase.
Bug fixes
An issue preventing players from finding snipers with High Explosive rounds from Ground Loot in Ranked Play matches was fixed. Also, an issue where the player was asked to rejoin the match after the squad was eliminated and the player left the match was repaired.
Exploitations permitting players to have infinite Super Jumps by using a second Temp V field upgrade and the usage of the Gulag Token, even after previous losses in the Gulag match, were fixed.
Issues impacting in-game degradations, such as the missing in-world icon for the Squad Loadout crate until pinged and the substantially reduced range while battling AI in DMZ due to the Semi-Auto Trigger on the MX Guardian shotgun, have also been addressed.
