After almost five years since its launch, the popular pirate game Sea of Thieves is all set to get one of its most demanded updates yet. Ever since the launch the fans have been asking questions about when single player mode in the game, and it looks like they have their answer.
The single player mode in Sea of Thieves will arrive as part of Season 10 coming in December. The new single player mode will be called Safer Seas and will let players explore in private sessions without the threat of PvP.
In a recent Xbox Wire blog dated September 21, Rare’s creative director Mike Chapman revealed the decision. The blog states, “Just as we hope that the Skull of Siren Song will encourage competitive play, we recognize that for some players, a quieter, more independent experience can be preferable,” describing it as a new way to play.
It further read, “That’s why, in December, Season 10’s third major feature will introduce an entirely new game mode that grants players the ability to sail the Sea of Thieves alone or with a crew of friends, within their own private game session.”
Well, that’s some good news for sure for the reported 2.3 million players who have played this live-service multiplayer game from developer Rare.
How to play Sea of Thieves as a Single Player?
With the new solo mode of Sea of Thieves named Safer Seas, the Xbox Wire blog also added that the main game mode will be renamed and will be known as High Seas going forward. Since now that Rare is officially adding this game mode, it will be easily accessible without any hassle.
The Safer Seas or the single player mode can easily be found in the adventure mode options. Once a player selects the adventure mode, they will see two options namely High Seas and Safer Seas. To play Sea of Thieves in solo mode all players need to do is select the Safer Seas option here.
Season Ten will also introduce a way to enjoy Sea of Thieves at your own pace with Safer Seas. While rewards will be reduced and certain features inaccessible, you’ll be able to enjoy a wealth of pirate fun, sailing alone or with a crew of your friends in a private game session. pic.twitter.com/kqg1TQlzos

In the blog, Chapman also clarified that since Safer Seas will have reduced risks, to balance out the corresponding rewards are also lowered from the main game mode (High Seas now). He further stated that Trading Companies will also offer less gold and reputation for treasures handed in Safer Seas. Similarly there will be a rank 40 cap, which means Pirate Legend status cannot be obtained while in Safer Seas.
Players will also not be able to undertake Voyages on behalf of the Athena’s Fortune Trading Company in the new mode. There will be other challenging and PvP-focused aspects of the game that solo players will have to miss out on like The Reaper’s Bones, the Emissary system and Faction battles. The reputation and gold values in Safer Seas will be 30% as compared to 100% in High Seas.
“While High Seas will remain the primary and most aspirational way to play Sea of Thieves, Safer Seas offers a complimentary way to explore and learn more about the pirate life in a more predictable environment,” Chapman added. He also expressed Rare’s hope that the new mode will broaden Sea of Thieves’ appeal and encourage more and more players to find their sea legs, before advancing to the High Seas and proving themselves as Pirate Legends.
