Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K and Rockstar Games reportedly has invested in a new technology to bring advanced water physics to GTA 6. Rockstar Games reportedly has hired around 20 engineers to work on the game’s Water Physics.
Rockstar has gained a massive profit margin from GTA V and GTA Online, which has fueled its parent company Take-Two Interactive to invest more than $2 billion in the upcoming, much-awaited GTA 6.
The increased funding has helped them avoid the expensive NVIDIA WaveWorks engine, showcased by popular YouTuber Lew from Unbox Therapy in March 2023. This helped them double down on further developing their internal RAGE engine to improve the water physics in GTA 6.
Will GTA 6 have Surfing?
According to popular Rockstar insider Aleix Venturas, the Co-Editor of Rockstar Magazine, officially supported by Rockstar Games. There would be development to their internal game engine, bringing next-gen water physics to GTA 6 and possibly some water sports such as Surfing.
Aleix Venturas’ exact words in the tweet, which was in French, said, “Le terme “en avance sur son temps” est réaliste.” meaning “The term ‘ahead of its time’ is realistic.” In another tweet, he confirms that the aquatic environment will occupy an important space in the game.
His exact tweet, translated from French, reads, “We can therefore speculate that the aquatic environment will occupy an important place in the universe of #GTAVI and that a lot of new features will accompany this new technology, such as the practice of a new sport in the GTA saga, such as surfing, for example.”

So far, there have been few water-based sports or adventure games other than Surfs Up and the 2014 game Subnautica which features decent water physics. Enhanced water activities and precise water physics will aid games with similar physics if implemented by Rockstar.
GTA 6 leaks and rumors so far
The Rockstar Hack in September 2022 resulted in the leak of videos showing off 53 minutes and 26 seconds worth of test footage. This has given way to various leaks and rumors circulating in the gaming company.
Youtuber INTER, who regularly covers GTA leaks and is a well-known GTA content creator, posted details of various leaks from GTA 6. It will reportedly have a larger map than any previous installment in the series. This rumor makes the game’s water-based activities and adventure much more integral to the gameplay. Someone leaked a video clip on Twitter, which shows the main character involved in a shooting with the police.

There have been discussions that the game will feature multiple playable characters, similar to GTA V. Some leaks have suggested that GTA 6 might be set in Vice City, while others believe it will occur in a new location. Rockstar has not confirmed any rumors, leaving fans and industry insiders to speculate. The game is expected to release in late 2024 or early 2025.
