Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report has revealed a lot of details about Rockstar Games’ projects. They shared insights on upcoming games including GTA 6, as well as its past hits such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Ever since Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018, the game has been delighting fans both, old and new. Undoubtedly, the game is one of the most immersive and detailed open worlds in recent times. Even after so many years of release, players can still spot hidden details in the game that were previously missed. That’s how intriguing the game is.
Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 61 million copies
During the earnings call, Take-Two Interactive revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has just passed another major sales milestone. It was announced that it was revealed that the game has crossed over 61 million copies sold worldwide since launch.
This makes it the seventh best-selling video game of all time. It follows Mario Kart 8 / Deluxe which has just over 69 million sales, and PUBG: Battlegrounds which ranks fifth with 75 million sales. Wii Sports with over 82 million sales is at the fourth spot, while EA’s Tetris with 100 million sole copies ranks third. At the top two spots are Grand Theft Auto 5 and Minecraft with 195 million, and 300 million respectively.

Behind Red Dead Redemption is Super Mario Bros with 58 million sales taking the eighth spot, followed by three games sharing the ninth spot. Overwatch, Human: Fall Flat, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt each have 50 million sales placing all three at the ninth spot. Finally, 1989’s Tetris sits at the tenth spot with 48 million units.
It is reported that Red Dead Redemption 2 sold an additional 4 million copies during the concerned earning period bringing the total to 61 million. Overall, the Red Dead Redemption series has also touched 86 million copies, marking a growth of 5 million copies compared to September 2023.
Could there be Red Dead Redemption 3?
Apart from Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 also clocked to 195 million units sold worldwide. With GTA 6 releasing early next year, it will be interesting to see how it disrupts the game sales rankings.
After achieving such great numbers, the community wondered if the success could inspire Rockstar Games for another installment of RDR. Looking at these recent sales figures, could be a possibility that Rockstar Games may be considering.
Besides there have also been a number of rumors over time, most recently last month, about Red Dead Redemption 3 being in the works. However, Rockstar Games is yet to confirm anything in that regard. Meanwhile with two of its games setting records, and an upcoming game that also promises to crush records, Rockstar is just proving its mettle time and again.
