Is Lost Crown a Reboot of the Prince of Persia Series?
A lot of fans and community experts believe that the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a reboot of the series. Several experts are of the opinion that it is a low-budget, low-stakes, sort of soft reboot for the franchise. It essentially pays tribute to the series’ side-scrolling roots in Jordan Mechner’s 1989 original.
However, the game director Mounir Radi had an opposing view. In a conversation with Polygon, he said that for him and his team, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is not a reboot but “a whole new chapter” in the series. He added that it can be considered as a prequel if need be, but not a reboot.
“It’s not a reboot, it’s a whole new chapter. We just hope that players, because we try to be humble with this, give us a chance to continue this. It’s firstly a whole new chapter. It could be seen and perceived as a prequel because we use some specific elements from the previous Prince Of Persia games, but really it’s a whole new chapter,” he says.
Mounir says that the team has captured the iconic signatures of all the different games. He further says that when players get their hands on the game, they will understand where and how the devs have modernized The Lost Crown so that it feels both familiar and surprising.
