SUMMARY
- Overwatch 2's latest update adds to the disappointment of players.
- The latest update changed the size of projectiles, unintentionally changing the hitboxes.
Overwatch 2’s latest Season 9 just received a new update making significant changes to the ammunition sizes of many heroes. There are several other major changes introduced with the update. However, the change in projectile sizes in particular has led to discontent among several fans.
Overwatch 2’s Season 9 kick-started on February 13, 2024. The season introduces a brand-new system for the Competitive mode in addition to making major changes to health and healing.
Overwatch 2’s new projectile sizes and hitbox changes
Among the several changes, Season 9 increased the size of most damage-dealing projectiles. This led to larger hitboxes in many situations. Generally speaking, hitboxes in Overwatch 2 are more lenient than those in other first-person shooter games such as Counter-Strike.
Thus some players are disappointed with the increased leniency of Season 9’s projectiles. Naturally, a lot of fans voiced their discontent on social media and other forums. An X user and Overwatch 2 streamer ‘GetQuakedOn’ shared a video highlighting how easy it was to land shots with Mercy’s pistol after the new update.

In the video, the streamer is seen placing his crosshair almost a full body width away from a Soldier 76 dummy, and still, his bullets connect. Notably, the new projectile change does not apply only to Mercy. Several other users have posted similar types of videos of Sojourn, Hanzo, and others showcasing their increased projectile sizes.
That being said, all these videos have players aiming at stationary bots. Thus there could be changes in the delivery of bullets in real matches.
Players react to the new changes
Nonetheless, it seems like the changes are targeted mainly towards Overwatch 2 players who struggle with aiming. The changes will help them feel more satisfied during gunfights. The changes in projectile size will enable players to land more shots.
However, it remains to be seen how the higher-skilled Overwatch 2 players receive this change. These skilled players were initially quite frustrated by the idea.
They took what horrible balance was left in the game and tossed it out the window. Now there’s no need for mechanical skills whatsoever. As a tank main, i’m disgusted with this patch.
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s like the Neuss and Keller just pushed some random numbers on the programmers and told them to tweak it accordingly and hope for the best.”
Another player took a dig at developer Blizzard letting go of their long-time CEO Bobby Kotick saying, “nah THIS is disgusting. but yea a bobby kotick issue for sure.”
Meanwhile, players can look forward to the upcoming crossover event with Cowboy Bebop coming in Overwatch 2. It will arrive later in Season 9.
