SUMMARY
- Nintendo Switch 2 is a highly anticipated device by gamers and fans of the original Nintendo Switch.
- The company, Altec Lansing, that developed Gameshark might have accidentally leaked the release date for Nintendo Switch 2.
Amidst the ongoing AI-related trend at CES 2024, audio electronics company Altec Lansing recently announced an artificial intelligence-powered successor to GameShark, which will be named AI Shark. If that wasn’t all, they also published a press release about the news software and casually leaked the release date or Nintendo Switch 2 in it.
The press release revealed that the the classic cheat device GameShark is returning, in the form of an AI-powered successor called “AI Shark.” However, that wasn’t what amused the fans. Instead, it was a simple statement in the release that gave out a big news about Nintendo Switch 2, that fans had been eagerly waiting for.
Obviously, Altec Lansing later tried to revoke their error, but it was too late with most of the community having already seen it.
When is Nintendo Switch 2 releasing?
The press release from Altec Lansing revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 device is slated for a September 2024 release. Announcing the return of GameShark as AI Shark the company said, “Formerly known as GameShark, Ai Shark is set to redefine the gaming landscape with its revolutionary AI-enhanced technology.”
The release further added, “The innovative gaming software is set to mark a significant leap forward in the gaming experience, bringing enhanced gameplay for beginner-level users. The official launch is planned to coincide with the Nintendo Switch 2 in September 2024.”
Notably, while speaking to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the company stated that they were only guessing at the release date. On the other hand, it told Digital Trends, that the Switch 2 is tentatively planned for “fall 2024.”
For the unversed, GameShark is a line of video game cheat cartridges along with other products for a variety of console video game systems and Windows-based PCs in the 1990s. After the company went bankrupt, it was sold to Mad Catz, and ever since it has been dormant.
At the CES 2024 event, Altec Lansing revealed that it is returning under a new name. The new AI Shark will target “casual gamers” using ‘exclusive XGPT technology and real-time TPU acceleration to elevate users’ gaming experiences.” The device will provide personalized hints and assistance to help players keep up with fast-paced, competitive gaming.
Interestingly, either they speculated the Nintendo Switch 2 release date or knew it for sure, there was no need or connection for AI Shark to talk about Nintendo Switch 2 in their release. Thus, causing several users to believe it was just a marketing strategy to get people talking about their product, which otherwise was likely to go unnoticed.
What do we know about Nintendo Switch 2?
May believe that AI Shark declaring the release date is very odd, especially since Nintendo has not yet even confirmed the name of its next console not its release window for it. The unofficially named ‘Nintendo Switch 2’ device has been a subject of discussion for years however, Nintendo has stayed tight-lipped about it.
They have not even officially acknowledged that they are indeed working on the next console. All they have stated in the past is that if there is a platform’s eventual successor in the future, it will ensure a “smooth transition” for Switch users.
Nonetheless, there have been some rumors about the console. Recently a report suggested that it would arrive in 2024 and will be a hybrid handheld console just like the current Switch. Notably, Nintendo themselves have argued on reports that suggest the company was showing a Switch successor off to partnered developers at last year’s Gamescom 2023.
Additionally, a report had also suggested that Switch 2 may employ Nvidia’s new custom variant T239 processor and that it could be capable of running Death Stranding at 1080p at an average of 35 fps. Another report even pointed out that it could be priced at $400.
Interestingly, Nintendo has been hosting a Nintendo Direct presentation for the past 11 years in February annually. With Altec Lansing leaking the release date of Nintendo Switch 2, all eyes will be on the event if it happens with hopes of some announcement.
