After the grand success of Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games is now preparing for the launch of its next big project, Wolverine. Just like Spider-Man 2, Wolverine will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive title. However, the one aspect that is going to differ from Spider-Man 2 is that Wolverine is reportedly said to be much darker and gruesome than Spider-Man 2.
Insomniac Games launched Spider-Man 2 on October 20, 2023, and received a lot of positive reviews from fans and critics alike. As fans still explore New York City with the two SPidermen, namely Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the developers have already started working on giving fans the next big hit.
The developers have also teased that a spin-off to Spider-Man 2 featuring the antagonist, Venom, may be a possibility, however, that is yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, reputed internet leaker ‘DanielRPK’, who is known to give away scoops on Marvel TV shows and movies, has shared some inside information on Insomniac’s upcoming project.
Marvel’s Wolverine will be Mature Rated?
DanielRPK revealed that the upcoming Wolverine game will be much darker and more violent than the studio’s Spider-Man titles. Additionally, Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb had also shared details of the game earlier this year.
Grubb had mentioned that the upcoming release would revolve majorly around Wolverine’s journey before he joined the X-Men. He also said that the developers were aiming for a “hard R”/M-rated tone. “Hard R is what they’re going for… that’s one of the concepts that I’ve heard,” he said. He further added, “I think an M-rated Wolverine could work, I think an M-rated superhero game could work, and this is probably the right character.”
The Wolverine game insomniac is making could be rated M. If they were to make an X-Men game would you also want this game to be rated M or would you prefer a regular teen rating for it?

For the unknown, The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) usually rates games with an “M rating,” which stands for mature. The mature rating signifies that the content is not meant for children under 17. Thus, Marvel’s Wolverine will be for individuals aged 17 years and above. Notably, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was T-rated for Teens, meaning individuals above 13 years of age.
DanielRPK has also revealed that the upcoming title will feature Madripoor, Marvel’s fictional island that is often associated with X-Men stories. Fans believe it is not particularly surprising since one can spot mentions of Madripoor’s The Princess Bar in Insomniac’s announcement teaser.
When is Insomniac Games’ Wolverine releasing?
Marvel’s Wolverine by Insomniac Games was first announced in at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, along with a brief teaser trailer. Besides the fact that it will have “cutting-edge gameplay” and an “emotional narrative,” not much has been officially confirmed by the devs.
In February this year, Grubb had said that Insomniac’s Wolverine was looking at two potential release windows. One was for as close as next year, and the other Grubb said that Insomniac was “still very much talking about 2025” internally.
Thus fans can expect the game to hit their PlayStation 5 consoles at the most by 2025. The development of the game is still underway.
