Rockstar Games recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of GTA 5, its last successful title from the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The game enjoyed a long run of success, although fans are now eagerly awaiting the upcoming installment, GTA 6.
Very little information is known officially from Rockstar Games regarding GTA 6. However, the numerous leaks have given out a lot about the game. It started with the hacking of a Slack account of a developer from the Rockstar Toronto studio by the group of young hackers “Lapsus$” last year.
The group of hackers revealed bits and pieces of information as well as gameplay clips from GTA 6 which Rockstar Games would have rather concealed.
What followed was months and months of heaps of newer reports cropping up about GTA 6 leaks almost every week. Similarly, a new report recently surfaced from a French platform named Rockstar Mag, wherein interesting information on the technical improvements in GTA 6 was revealed.
GTA 6 to have ground-breaking graphics
The blog by Rockstar Mag, originally in French, points out how the graphics in GTA 6 are set to be a huge leap from the graphics of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption, another game from the Rockstar hood. Rockstar Games uses its proprietary engine called “Rockstar Advanced Game Engine”, popularly known by the acronym “RAGE,” in all of its games.
After establishing the engine in 2004, Rockstar Games has made sure to evolve it over time. Today the Rare is one of the most efficient engines in the video game industry. The developer made use of Rage 7 in GTA 5, which brought certain innovations like the improvement of its scripting engine, the implementation of DirectX 11, and better memory management. 10 years, and it is still an effective one.

Next, it used RAGE 8 in Red Dead Redemption 2 bringing in artificial intelligence, management of meteorology, volumetric effects, and the implementation of the Vulkan and DirectX 12 APIs. To date, these remain to be the most advanced in the industry.
Likewise, for GTA 6, the developer would introduce Rage 9 with some ground-breaking innovations and features.
As per the report, Rage 9 in GTA 6 will focus more on the innovation of:
- The physics of the game (the physics of water will be simulated in real time, vehicle deformations will be better, and so on)
- Realistic time management (times like morning, day, evening, and night will be realistic)
- Higher quality of renderings (the textures, lights, volumetric clouds, etc will be rendered in a higher quality)
- Artificial intelligence would improve (the interactions with NPCs, police reactions, etc. in the game would be improved further)
Thus the graphics difference between Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 6 will be much greater than the one seen between GTA 5 and RDR 2. Rockstar is developing new technologies to make all these possible.
Water graphics and physics in Gta6. this is a short clip from HFW a cross gen game released last year. I thought I’d share this to give an idea of what we could expect from rockstar since we’ll be in vice city

Interestingly the blog also mentioned a disclaimer saying all the information was still in a developmental state, and that, “It is not yet 100% certain that all these options will be implemented upon the release of the GTA 6 game and with the new version of RAGE9.”
Thus it is advised to take this information with a grain of salt. However, one thing is certain and that is with GTA 6 Rockstar Games is going to come up with things that have never been seen in the video game industry before.
