Back in October 2022, an avid Minecraft player took things in the sandbox game to another level by building the entire universe in-game. It was so surprising and unbelievably beautiful that not only users, but even gaming giants like Xbox found it difficult to believe what they were seeing.
It was a YouTuber named ChrisDaCow who went beyond just building castles and weapons in Minecraft by creating the whole universe in Minecraft’s Creative mode. And universe means he created everything from a Black Hole, Nebula, Solar System, a lot. He had shared his amazing creation with users on Reddit as well as X (formerly Twitter).
The Universe created by ChrisDaCow in Minecraft
The creation was so good that even the official Xbox account retweeted it and added, “Go back to bed, nothing you do today will be this good.” He shared a short video, wherein ChrisDaCow showed small glimpses of the universe he had created along with a fitting soundtrack. The soundtrack makes the whole video even more lively.
The YouTuber begins the video by jumping out of an airplane. He explained that this way he wanted to get a good look at Earth. However, he explained that the technique was obviously not good enough technique thus the creator decided to go for the much easier option and just look at a globe.
He then measured the location of individual continents to entirely replicate the planet. The YouTuber shares that he wanted to color each of the continents the exact same colors as they appear from space. This took him about three days.
After that, he created the rest of the Milky Way including planets such as Mars, Venus, Mercury, and others in our solar system and the Sun. He also made the earth and created the smaller planets around it, which were 700,000 times smaller than they actually are to fit them into the building.
ChrisDaCow shared that he found Saturn the most challenging to make, which in fact ended up taking a whole day just to make the rings surrounding it.
How did the Minecraft player create the universe?
ChrisDaCow, whose real name is Christopher Slayton said that he meticulously studied the structures in outer space to recreate the cosmos in Minecraft. He was so dedicated to making the universe that he even skydived before recreating Earth.

He shares that to make the sun, he used the “brightest blocks in Minecraft” and included solar flares to make the sun “feel alive with fire,”. As he went on to create a cluster of galaxies, he trekked to the top of a mountain with a friend and set up a telescope just to observe the real-world collections of stars, gas, dust, and planets that he wanted to replicate.
Within his universe model, Slayton also made a black hole. He shares that he took inspiration from the 2014 movie Interstellar, and made the plumes of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula’s Pillars of Creation. Finally, he shared he created a spherical, web-like structure that symbolized the whole universe.
He also used various “mods,” to edit the structure or the existing code of a video game, across the project to accelerate the building process.
