World Wrestling Entertainment, popularly called WWE, is the biggest promotion in the professional wrestling industry. The company has seen a lot of ups and downs throughout its long history, but the one thing that remains constant is its success.
WWE has some of the best wrestling professionals on its massive roster, who showcase their excellent in-ring skills regularly through brilliant performances. Due to their high-flying and hard-hitting performances, wrestlers suffer injuries that can even be career-threatening.
One question that comes to the mind of everyone in the WWE universe is whether WWE pays the medical bills for injured wrestlers or not. The answer to this question is “Yes,” but there are some primary conditions for these facilities.
The company has an extensive healthcare program for its in-ring performers’ medical care, but it can only be used if injuries are suffered during in-ring action. If a WWE superstar suffers an injury during in-ring action, the medical expenses will be covered by the company.
However, if the injury is suffered by the performer during training sessions or in some other manner, the medical expenses have to be covered by the wrestler. It may not sound like the perfect criteria to many, but that’s what WWE follows to pay the medical bills for injured wrestlers.
WWE Superstar claims he had to pay his own medical expenses
Following his release from the company in November 2021, former WWE Superstar Keith Lee issued a statement through Twitter. In his tweet, Lee talked about his 6-month absence from the company due to heart issues and claimed that he paid all medical expenses on his own.
Keith wrote, “Greetings and salutations. This day is my birthday! It is not a happy birthday, but it is one I am most grateful for. Several months ago, it was not a guarantee I would make it to this day, so there is positivity in that.”
“I paid all my medical bills from the many offices and machines I frequented. There is positivity in that. And I do find it amusing that people believe anyone, but me paid for my medical expenses,” he added.
Thank you for all the positivity that has been dropped on me the past few days as well as the birthday wishes. I love you. Worry not. We are not done. We work.#BaskInMyGlory #iAmLimitless pic.twitter.com/NkxqL6qkWM

After Lee’s claims about paying his own medical expenses, WWE released an official statement on the issue. The statement reads, “Keith Lee’s recent comments implying WWE failed to pay his medical bills are erroneous.“
“WWE has an extensive healthcare program for the medical care of its in-ring performers, and Mr. Lee was part of this program while with the company. Should Mr. Lee have any concerns over the payment of medical bills, he is welcome to address them with WWE,” it stated. (Via: Wrestling Inc.)
Keith Lee didn’t publicly respond to WWE’s statement over the medical expenses issue and later made his professional wrestling return at AEW Dynamic on February 9, 2022. Since his debut in AEW, Lee has enjoyed a decent amount of success at the promotion. It remains to be seen what’s next in AEW for the former NXT Champion.
