CM Punk has arguably been the most controversial pro wrestler in history. The 6-foot-2 has been named in a lot of controversies. But his abrupt WWE departure is still the most talked-about thing about his pro wrestling career.
The 6-time World Champion joined the promotion back in 2005, and by 2010, he had become a prominent figure. Despite a huge fan base, he suddenly left WWE in 2014. Sharing the reason behind it, Punk shared that he left because he thought he’d be dead during his last run under Vince McMahon.
This happened back in October 2019, when CM Punk appeared for an interview with “Collider Podcasts.” During this conversation, the veteran talked briefly about his last WWE stint. He even spoke about why he left the Stamford-based promotion.
The Straight Edge Superstar initially shared how he would not like to have himself in a position where he can get hurt. When questioned about what he actually meant by that, Punk revealed his point. He said, “I gave myself to a point where I look back at it, and if I didn’t leave and walk out, I would be dead.”
Moreover, the 44-year-old disclosed that he was messed up, but people who were supposed to help him weren’t really helping. CM even shared that he begged for time off but never got it. All these issues eventually led to his unexpected walkout from WWE in January 2014.
Will CM Punk ever return to WWE?
CM Punk may not have ended his last stint with WWE on good terms, but for the last few months, there have been rumors of his return to the promotion. All such speculations started after the pro wrestling veteran was terminated from All Elite Wrestling in September 2023.
As soon as Tony Khan announced he was firing the 44-year-old from his company, rumors of a potential WWE return started. Furthermore, what gave more air to such speculations were the reports that the Triple H-led promotion had a meeting after Punk’s AEW exit.
Over the next few weeks, the possibility of his comeback increased further due to some surprising reports. WWE’s merger with UFC intensified CM’s return rumors, as the veteran is said to be on good terms with Endeavor.
CM Punk DOES intend to return to WWE, and Punk and WWE are indeed in talks.

Even though such reports have been circulating heavily, The Straight Edge Superstar hasn’t shown up. Now it’s been speculated that he might be returning at Survivor Series 2023. Will this rumor become a reality? If it does, Punk’s return would probably be one of the most memorable moments in WWE history.
