With Jake Paul losing to Tommy Fury, there have been a lot of discussions about the fight. While some called it a poor showing from both boxers, others labeled the fight a clinch-fest. However, one of the main talking points was Jake’s comments before the fight.
Coming into the fight, there was a lot of taunting and teasing from Jake’s side, as always. Moreover, the YouTuber also proposed an “all or nothing” bet with Tommy Fury. As such, the winner would take home not only their share but the loser’s share as well.
Notably, the thing that caught people’s attention, was Jake’s pre-fight interview backstage. When asked if he was coming in at 100%, Jake stated, “Yes sir, Jake Joseph Paul, the full name, legendary, let’s get it baby, haha.” However, the Problem Child was singing a different tune in the post-fight interview. As such, Jake said, “Honestly, I felt flat, I got sick really bad twice in this camp, and injured my arm, so it wasn’t my best performance.”
As such, Jake received quite a few boos from the crowd when he made the comment. Although he is usually the prankster, it was his time to face the music after the loss. Moreover, the fight showed that the alleged leaked script for the fight was wrong. It looks like fans will likely see Paul trigger the rematch clause and look to avenge his setback against Tommy Fury.
Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury: scorecard controversy
Despite some fans and Jake’s brother Logan Paul being unhappy with the decision, the punching stats also justify the judge’s decision. However, many have pointed out that the scorecards for the fight actually make the fight seem closer than it actually was. One of the key points for concern was the judge who scored the contest 75-74 for Paul.
For context, Jake only managed to land 49 out of 152 total punches. In contrast, Fury landed a total of 88 punches out of an attempted 302. As a result, two judges scored the contest 76-73 in favor of Fury. Although Jake managed to score a knockdown in Round 8, it always seemed too little, too late. Thus, despite what some may feel, Tommy Fury was far and away the clear winner of the contest.

Throughout the fight, Tommy expertly utilized his jab to keep Paul at a distance and did well to stay active throughout. According to the punching stats for the fight, Tommy Fury out-landed Jake in every round of the fight. Notably, this was the first time Jake took on an actual boxer who didn’t fold at the first hit and actually showed some chin.
In the end, Jake’s dependence on big, highlight-reel punches did not pay off against a boxer that can actually dodge them. All in all, the fight should be a big learning experience for Paul. As such, if he wishes to get revenge on Fury and establish himself as a ‘real’ boxer, he will have to work out a few flaws in his game.
