7X Mr. Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger, known as a role model for young aspiring athletes, may not have had his self-esteem fulfilled. The 76-year-old candidly confessed his insecurities about his growing age and how his self-esteem took a toll with his wrinkles.
While having a candid interview on The Howard Stern, the former Governor of California confessed how he has been struggling to come to terms with his growing age, after being a bodybuilding legend during his youth. “I kind of smile because every day I do look in a mirror and I say, ‘Yep, you suck,'” he admitted to Howard Stern.
He shared that he feels powerless now looking at his pectoral muscles, which were once firm and perky, reflecting his strength and power in there. As he grows older, his muscles feel like they are just hanging there. “You roll the clock 50 years and you’re standing there and you don’t see that anymore,” he said.
Schwarzenegger’s words reflect his lowered self-esteem when he said many people sure go through this existential crisis. But he argued that they really don’t know what it feels like to become an average man when once you were a ‘Superman.’
Continuing further in the discussion, the bodybuilding legend admitted that he looks way better than most people his age, but that doesn’t bring him the satisfaction he ought to have. He accepted that he didn’t think about this when he was 30 or 40 years old.
After facing many challenges in his lifetime, The Terminator star accepted that he wasn’t that upset about this because it was really out of his control. The bottom line was that even at the age of 76, he stands strong, full of energy and enthusiasm.
How did Arnold Schwarzenegger adapt his fitness routine to his age?
With his growing age, Arnold Schwarzenegger realized that he could not push himself to the extreme limits he did in his youth to attain the iconic muscular body. Those days are over for him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t focused anymore.
The 7x Mr. Olympia winner focuses more on efficiency than lifting heavy weights. After having several heart, shoulder, and knee surgeries, the legend realized that it’s important to take care of his body and do therapy training.
From bodybuilding to Hollywood to politics, Schwarzenegger has seen it all. He has spent decades of his life focused on growing his body and making it more muscular. It doesn’t matter which workout routine he opts for; he mainly focuses on one simple thing: don’t think too much; just do it.
At this age, he starts his day by feeding his animals and riding his motorcycle to the gym. He mostly focuses on hearty workouts, as those are good for the mind too.
