Jade Cargill is now among the top names in WWE’s female division, despite a young association with the promotion. Even though the 5-foot-10-inch-tall star started her pro wrestling career just a few years ago, she’s made a name for herself.
Big Jade is now signed with the Stamford-based promotion, but before officially joining the company in September 2023, she had previously refused an offer. This incident took place back in 2019, as Cargill turned down an offer to become a part of the Triple H-led promotion.
This was revealed by Jade during an appearance on AEW’s Wrestling With The Week. In the interview, the former Division I basketball player disclosed that she turned down an offer to join WWE developmental after a successful tryout at the Performance Center in April 2019.
The 31-year-old added that the figure who helped her with this offer by setting up the whole thing was Hall of Famer Mark Henry. As Big Jade did pretty well in the tryout, she was asked to come and join but ended up refusing the offer. But as per Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, it was the other way around.
The pro wrestling expert alleged that WWE passed on the opportunity to sign Big Jade. As the female star’s comments were different from what Dave said, there’s a bit of uncertainty about what actually was the reason behind Cargill not joining WWE in 2019, as it would have been a massive thing for both parties.
Jade Cargill accomplished a lot after turning down WWE’s offer
Even though the deal between WWE and Jade Cargill wasn’t able to be completed, the 31-year-old female star went on to accomplish a lot. After turning down the offer in 2019, the 5-foot-10-inch-tall pro wrestler signed with All Elite Wrestling.
Cargill made her debut for the Tony Khan-led promotion on November 11, 2020, and she was announced as AEW’s latest signing. The start to her journey with the Jacksonville-based promotion was epic, as she became the company’s inaugural TBS Champion within two months of her debut in the company.
The female performer had an iconic reign with her title, as she had a 508-day dominant run with the TBS title. During her reign, Big Jade decimated all her opponents, which included the top names in the women’s division, but she wasn’t able to get rid of Kris Statlander.
Kris defeated Cargill on May 28, 2023, at AEW Double or Nothing, thus ending her historic title run. Following her loss, Jade was written off from weekly television for over three months. After a long absence, she made a grand return to the company on Collision’s September 9 episode.
But her comeback was short-lived, as her appearance on AEW’s September 15 show became her last in the company. Within two weeks of her last match in All Elite Wrestling, Jade Cargill was officially announced as WWE’s latest signing. It now remains to be seen whether she can recreate her past success during her run in the Triple H-led promotion or not!
