Maxwell Jacob Friedman, popularly referred to by his ring name MJF, has been one of the most prominent names in All Elite Wrestling for a long time. The performer is currently at the peak of his career and is also the reigning AEW World Champion.
Despite a relatively young career in the professional wrestling industry, Friedman has had a number of controversies in his journey. One of the most controversial moments in his stint with Tony Khan’s company happened earlier this year when MJF confessed to the murder on Live TV.
This happened during a backstage interview on the February 8, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite. MJF shared a personal life story about his high school crush in the segment. While doing so, he revealed how they once went on a drive and hit a telephone pole. The AEW star claimed that his crush was covered in blood, but he switched seats with her after hearing police sirens.
The AEW World Champion said, “Police sirens began to roar. In that moment, I found out what type of man I am. I’m the type of guy who grabbed Liv’s lifeless body and switched seats with her, so when the cop showed up, I wasn’t the one driving in“. (Via- X)
Before confessing about this incident, Maxwell praised his crush heavily. He talked about her brown skin tone and also pointed out how beautiful her eyes, curly hair, and smile were. This entire segment received a lot of backlash from AEW fans, as they didn’t really like how MJF could do this on live television.
MJF is the first person to pin CM Punk in AEW
Friedman may have been a part of several controversies throughout his journey with the Jacksonville-based promotion, but there’s no denial to the fact that he’s arguably the face of All Elite Wrestling. In addition to his spectacular performances, another major thing on his list of accomplishments is that MJF is the first person to pin CM Punk in AEW.
The Best in the World had been on a winning streak ever since his debut for Tony Khan’s company back in August 2021. But the former WWE star suffered the first loss in his AEW career at the hands of MJF, as he pinned Punk in a match held in Chicago, Illinois.
It happened on the February 2, 2022, episode of AEW Dynamite, as Friedman came out on top in their encounter. The Best in the World avenged his loss in their Dog Collar match on March 6, 2023, at Revolution, but MJF will always remain the guy who gave Punk his first loss in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
This feud did wonders for both performers as they continued to rise in the ranks of AEW’s top stars. Maxwell is currently the AEW World Champion, while CM is the Real World Champion in Tony Khan‘s company. Both of them are scheduled to defend their respective titles at the All In London event, and it still remains to be seen who will walk out with the Championship title.
