Kenny Omega was told when diagnosed with Diverticulitis that he was very lucky he went in because the situation could have been catastrophic, such as getting a blood infection, if he wasn’t diagnosed at the time he was, which would have something like a 50% chance of death.

According to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega was showing signs of deep pain backstage at the December 13 AEW Dynamite show in Texas. As soon as his promo segment with Chris Jericho ended Kenny was rushed to the hospital.
On reaching the hospital the medical professionals diagnosed him with Diverticulitis and told him that he was fortunate enough to arrive on time. As if there had been more delay the situation could have worsened and led to blood infection with about 50% chance of survival.
According to Meltzer’s statement in the WON, “He was told when diagnosed that he was very lucky he went in because the situation could have been catastrophic, such as getting a blood infection, if he wasn’t diagnosed at the time he was, which would have something like a 50 percent chance of death.”
Another famous pro wrestler from WWE has gone through the same disease in the past. Brock Lesnar was diagnosed with a serious case of Diverticulitis in 2009. Lesnar had to undergo surgery and it had an impact on him as well as his career. The Beast Incarnate did fight back his medical condition and returned to action successfully after recovery.
Kenny Omega thought he had a hernia before diagnosis
Kenny’s first instinct led him to believe that he again had a hernia which kept him out of action for a long period in 2022. But his apprehensions were proved wrong on diagnosis and thankfully he acted fast on it.
Dave Meltzer spoke about it during Wrestling Observer Radio, He had been in a lot of pain, and he thought what happened was, as you probably all remember, that he had the hernia [in 2022] that was really, really bad, which caused him that long period off. And he had been hurting really, really bad. And he had presumed it was a hernia.”
Tony Khan provided a further update on the health and status of Kenny Omega.

AEW President Tony Khan also shared his comments on the matter. At the ROH Final Battle Media Scrum Tony said, “We’re all praying or Kenny Omega and thankfully there is good reason to be optimistic, but we were all worried about him, but it was honestly really hard the last 24 hours focusing on wrestling when somebody who is part of our wrestling family who has something happening that’s not wrestling like that.”
Khan told about how Kenny Omega got medical help at the right time and he will leave it to Kenny himself to give further updates on his condition. He also expressed his concern about Kenny and wished for his quick recovery.
