WWE fame John Cena has evolved over the years as a wrestler. WWE was initially tough for the 16-time world champion. He was very close to being fired from the company before he showcased his true personality. While there is a lot of inside story into John Cena’s in-ring persona, there is a fascinating story behind his iconic ‘You can’t see me’ signature.
In a video shared by BuzzFeedVideo in 2021, John Cena revealed how his signature finally came into existence. While they were choosing the theme for his entrance, Cena got to hear ‘The Time Is Now’ theme. John liked the music but went ahead to consult his brother, a harsh critic. “And if he enjoyed it, I knew we were okay,” said John Cena.
Upon hearing the music, Cena’s brother did the ‘Yayo dance’ (put his hand in front of his face and shook his head) in appreciation. Cena jokingly dared that he’d do that on TV the next time to pay homage to his little brother for liking the song.
However, being an artist, he decided to modify the same. Instead of shaking his head, he moved his hand, a gesture used to mock the opponent in the hip-hop industry. “I kind of put the two and two together just really trying to make one person in West Newbury, Massachusetts laugh.” Eventually, the move became Cena’s signature and has been in the works since then.
John Cena wants his ‘You Can’t See Me’ joke to go away
John Cena’s ‘You Can’t See Me’ joke has taken up a lot of internet space. The fans have been enjoying the iconic line. They don’t miss any opportunity to make a meme out of the same. In his interviews as well, the crew pretends to wonder where to place the mic. Cena takes these jokes sportivley.
While John Cena has been quite sarcastic both on and off the screen, he is often seen being upset for the same. In one of the videos shared by HBO Asia on YouTube, John Cena reacted to the tweets that the audience had for the PeaceMaker. One Twitter user named Mr_mansuur, wrote, “I have a feeling the PeaceMaker is going to be an interesting character. Too bad we can’t see him though.” To this, John Cena said that he hopes the joke goes away someday.
