Ever since there has been a lot of movement with CM Punk in his promotions, fans are quite curious to know the same for his wife, AJ Lee. The two had been an integral part of the WWE Universe before things went haywire. Eventually, the two bid goodbye to the WWE ring.
Back in 2021, when Punk walked his way to AEW, fans hoped to see his wife step in his footsteps. However, before the rumors could gather much momentum, Punk decided to silence them. In an interview with The New York Post, Punk said that she would not consider having another professional wrestling run.

“I just want to say, no. Just because [of] her neck. The reason she stopped wrestling is because of her neck. She’s got a bad neck, you know,” said CM Punk. AJ Lee went through a life-threatening neck injury during her time in WWE that put her career at stake. As for any caring husband, Punk is thoughtful enough to keep his wife away from all the dangers of life.
“I wouldn’t want her to jeopardize [her] health and neither would she, so we’ll put an end to that rumor right now,” he added. With this, it was clear to fans that they wouldn’t get to see AJ Lee in an action role in any of the pro wrestling promotions. However, in 2021, she started working for Women of Wrestling in an executive role.
How did AJ Lee get injured?
AJ Lee’s neck injury became the root cause of her leaving professional wrestling forever. In a conversation with Renee Paquette, Lee explained how she injured herself. While she wasn’t sure when exactly she was hurt, she talked about that one particular spot in her mind that compelled her to hang her boots.

Talking about her match with Paige (now Saraya), AJ Lee said, “I f*cked up her move. I like, jumped a little early and I landed on the top of my head, couldn’t feel my legs.” Later, the sensation returned to her leg, but she decided to consult a doctor. It was only after she went to the doctor that she learned about her compacted discs.
“It turned out three of my discs are so compacted it is shutting off a nerve, so my hands just go numb randomly,” she added. The only two possible treatments were surgery or rehab and the former WWE Divas Champion chose the second. AJ Lee also revealed that she was loving her current stint with WOW. This also gives a subtle hint that AJ Lee might perhaps never return for an action role at WWE.
