It has been a while since NHL fans have seen the legendary Patrick Kane wear his stakes. But the good news is that he’s on a great path to recovery. His injury revolved around the hip and upper thighbone. The star had to opt in for surgery as it was his way of recovering quickly. The hip resurfacing surgery went on well and Kane claims his making great progress so far. This is positive news for NHL fans who love watching him compete.
The surgery took place on June 1, 2023, and medical experts gave him a four to six-month recovery period, after which could return. But Kane seems to be taking it slow to make sure he doesn’t face any ailments while competing in the future. “It’s just exciting to see the progression and just feeling better on the ice. Kind of getting back to my old self, so it’s pretty exciting,” Kane told Sportsnet. He has passed the five-month mark but intends on sticking the a six-month timetable. He is most likely going to return in December.
Patrick Kane dealt with the lingering injury throughout last year while he was with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was traded to the New York Rangers to conclude the season during which he still faced issues. The 3x Stanley Cup Winner is widely considered one of the best players in the league. He is destined to be a future Hall of Famer as well. Kane entered free agency during recovery and this had everybody wondering where he intended to go next.
Patrick Kane parts ways with Rangers for a one-year deal with the Red Wings
Midway through the 2022-23 Season, Patrick Kane was shipped during the trade deadline from the BlackHawks to the Rangers. He starred in 19 games and recorded 12 points along the way. Kane recorded only one goal along with five assists during the Rangers’ 2023 playoff stint. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in seven games by the New Jersey Devils, thus making a first-round playoff exit.
On entering free agency, Kane was expected to finalize a deal somewhere around Thanksgiving. By that time, the Rangers were already out of the race to acquire him. According to Bleacher Report, Kane was aware that he would possibly be left out of the Rangers free agents pool as there were other players they were interested in re-signing.

“I know they have young guys to sign and probably other priorities—you know, I’m turning 35 next year, but it’s not like I feel old… I know that I could be a top player, you know, if my focus is like solely on hockey,” he said. The Detroit Red Wings swooped in and grabbed the opportunity to sign the veteran. They inked a one-year deal in hopes of building on the pace they’ve been working on at the moment.
