The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be back with UFC Vegas 70 this weekend. Aside from the headlining fight between Nikita Krylov and Ryan Spann, Andre Muniz vs Brendan Allen is the other most significant fight on the card. This bout will take place in the middleweight division.
Both these fighters are coming off some decent wins in their past few bouts. Brendan Allen has three successive victories, while Andre Muniz has 9 wins in a row. On top of that, Allen and Muniz are both Dana White’s Contender Series alumni. With Jamahal Hill becoming the first DWCS fighter to become a UFC champ, Brendan and Andre both would be hoping to have the same career trajectory.

Andre Muniz is a great submission threat. Although he has 4 defeats in his career, all of his losses are prior to 2017. Since then, he has been on a rampage and has the chance to extend his winning streak to 10 back-to-back fights. Allen, on the other hand, is a great grappler himself. He is a BJJ maestro and is coming off a submission win over Krzysztof Jotko.

Muniz vs Allen: Fight Breakdown
When two amazing grapplers meet inside the Octagon, there is a huge chance of the bout being decided on the feet. Brendan Allen has 11 submissions and Andre Muniz has 15. Combined, they both have 26 submission wins in their career so far. So there are chances that their skill sets cancel each other out. So let’s take a look at the stats to see who the fight favors if it plays out on the feet.
As per UFC stats, Andre Muniz only lands 1.91 strikes per minute and absorbs 1.45. In comparison, Brendan Allen absorbs 4.01 strikes per minute, while landing 3.99 strikes. It appears that Allen has the better striking stats. Muniz has 4 KO wins and Allen has 5 knockout wins. Hence the 27-year-old will have a better chance of winning the bout on the feet.
But that does not mean that Muniz can not get the fight to the ground. The 33-year-old has a takedown average of 3.71 per fight with an average submission attempt of 2.1. He also has a takedown accuracy of 40%. Brendan Allen, on the other hand, has 1.31 takedowns per fight. With a takedown accuracy of 44%, Allen also attempts 1.5 submissions per fight.
Judging by the stats, both fighters have significant advantages in different areas of the contest. While grappling skills put Muniz in a better position, striking favors Allen. All 4 of Andre Muniz’s losses came via KO. If Muniz somehow gets past Brendan Allen’s powerful strikes, there is a big possibility that he takes down his opponent and grinds out a result.
