Former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas ends the year on a loss! Rose recently had a grappling match against Gillian Robertson at Fury Pro 6. The card featured a lot of other UFC stars like Eryk Anders, Chase Hooper, Clay Guida, and Ovince St. Preux. But, Rose’s loss against Robertson was the most notable occurrence in the event.
Rose Namajunas has razor-sharp striking. Her one-kick KO against Zhang Weili, at UFC 261, was one of the most impressive knockouts in the division’s history. However, her ground game is still evolving. Although she did manage to get the better of Zhang in their two fights, Rose shied away from wrestling against Carla Esparza. Their fight at UFC 274 is perhaps the least entertaining title fight in recent memory.

Throughout the bout, she kept on avoiding Esparza’s grappling and wanted to implement her striking supremacy instead. However, her disinterest in engaging in grappling sequences has backfired. Rose could not make any offensive moves on Gillian and the latter ended up submitting her with a vicious rear-naked choke.

Not only Rose, but her fiance Pat Barry was also on the card. Although he did not face a submission loss, Jon Pellott beat him via unanimous decision.
Fans react to Gillian Robertson submitting Rose Namajunas at Fury Pro 6
Rose Namajunas is a brown belt in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) under Tony Basile. Despite her superior striking skills, Rose has used her ground game to her advantage. Namajunas has an MMA record of 11-5.

Amongst her 11 wins, she has 5 submissions and only 2 knockout wins. So Rose is certainly no slouch on the ground. Despite her recent performance, Rose has shown a lot of potential on the ground.
However, she fell short against Gillian Robertson on the night. Robertson’s last fight came against Mariya Agapova in September 2022. Robertson submitted Agapova in the second round of the fight. As a matter of fact, the Canadian fighter has 8 submissions in her 11 MMA wins. So Gillian Robertson was certainly a big challenge for Rose.

Grappling in MMA and grappling, in general, are completely different. Robertson is the much better grappler and she is a BJJ black belt under Din Thomas. After her loss, fans slammed Rose for her decision to go up against Robertson in a grappling tournament. Especially when she was low on confidence after losing the UFC belt.

Neither Rose Namajunas nor Gillian Robertson is scheduled for a fight in the UFC at present. While fans can expect to see Robertson in action in the near future, there is no word on when Rose may come back following her heartbreaking loss to Carla Esparza at UFC 274.
